A few weeks ago a friend showed me the demo for a new real time strategy game called Act of War, where terrorists try to take over the US, and the US battles to stop them. It seems like any other game, but it is so in depth, and the scenarios are so real life that many military strategists are thinking of using the game to help the us prepare for future terrorist threats. Do you think this is a good idea? Can our country depend on computer games to help our defenses? Please let me know your opinions, thanks in advance.

Well, some of the hype about using the game as a training tool is probably pre-publicity. We have been following the development of the game at MilitarySpot.com. This is a very highly-anticipated game that begins with truck bombs on bridges in San Francisco. There is also a book that will be released around the same time as the game (in March). There has been some debate in these forums about should we give our thoughts on what would make a good terror attack, seeing that terrorists could get ideas. But unless the debate exposes some sort of unknown vulnerability, I don't see that we on these forums could think of something the terrorists have not already thought about, or could think about. Their cleverness was shown on 9/11.

Almost sounds like Real War.
Real War even sports the claim that it used by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. SWAT2 also tried to deal with terrorists inside of the US. It was okay but you had to really know SWAT tatics to really enjoy the game. |
