I will not pay attention to the Oscars because they have no credibility. They continue to push films with political viewpoints that do not represent my values. Nihilism, Abortion(Vera Drake), euthanasia(Million Dollar Baby), sexual promiscuity(Closer), etc. ad nauseum. I also don't want to hear any of their Bush bashing as they accept their little pats on the back. There is a distinct difference between an actor and a movie star. Sorry, but Julia Roberts is a movie star not an actor. And the very fact that she has won an Oscar goes a long way to indicate how ridiculous the whole dog and pony show is. Are you seriously telling me that no one else could have played Erin Brockovich? If this were awards for our troops, firefighters, police, teachers etc, I would even go out and buy another tv just so I could watch it on both. These people are truly deserving of so much more than they get. They have my love and eternal gratitude for all they do. They are this nations heart and soul. Oscars for people who make millions and then bash their country, call us "simple folk" stupid and get an award for playing pretend?? Sorry, I don't have the time!!! Here are some of their quotes, get ready for more:

Sharon Stone blames US President George W Bush for the absence of a lesbian kissing scene with Halle Berry in the movie Catwoman --
QUOTE
"Halle's so beautiful and I wanted to kiss her. I said, 'How can you have us in the movie and not have us kiss? That's such a waste.' That's what you get for having George Bush as president."
Alec Baldwin commenting on widespread reports of his claim to leave the country if Bush won:
QUOTE

"I think my exact comment was that if Bush won it would be a good time to leave the United States. I’m not necessarily going to leave the United States." Alec Baldwin's idea of Democracy on the Late Night with Conan O’Brien show:

QUOTE
"And I have come back from Africa to stained dressed and cigars and this and impeachment. I am thinking to myself, in other countries they are laughing at us 24 hours a day and I’m thinking to myself, if we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, [starts to shout] all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I’m not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we’d kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families. [stands up, yelling] What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH!

Robert Altman:
QUOTE
It [shooting a film in Britain] was the best experience of my life, with actors and with crews -the whole process. If you asked would I live in London the rest of my life, yeah, I'd be very happy to stay here. There's nothing in America that I would miss at all."

"This present government in America I just find disgusting, the idea that George Bush could run a baseball team successfully--he can't even speak! I just find him an embarrassment. I was over here [Britain] when the election was on and I couldn't believe it -and I'm 76 years old. Then when the Supreme Court came in and turned out to be a totally political animal, the last shred of any naiveté that was left in me has gone. When I see an American flag flying, it's a joke."

Cher warned moveon.org clubgoers to fight Bush, before "it's too late":
"All the gay guys, all my friends, all my gay friends, you guys you have got to vote, alright? Because it would only be a matter of time before you guys would be so screwed, I cannot tell you. Because, you know, the people, like, in the very right wing of this party, of these Republicans, the very very right wing, the Jerry Falwell element, if they get any more power, you guys are going to be living in some state by yourselves. So, I hate scare tactics, but I really believe that that's true."

Cher declared that Abraham Lincoln "looks like Kerry on a crappy day."

Sheryl Crow, war is OK, war is NOT OK:
QUOTE
"I think war is based in greed and there are huge karmic retributions that will follow. I think war is never the answer to solving any problems. The best way to solve problems is to not have enemies."

She Supported Clinton's Wars
Sheryl Crow protest Bush's war on Iraq, but that was not the case with Clinton's war in the Balkans. She traveled with Hillary Clinton and joined the USO to entertain the troops. Listen to her Gush! In April 1996 she told USA Today:

QUOTE
"Once over there I felt extremely patriotic. Here are these people, from 18-year-olds to military veterans, enduring real duress for the cause of peace. I don't ever want to play for a regular audience again, only military folks who are starving for music."

Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt, potty mouth with a mean streak:
QUOTE
"Bush is a f-----g idiot"
and then goes on, referring to President Bush's daughter, Jenna:
QUOTE
"We'd [Brad Pitt and her] pass her in the hall and Brad would say, 'Heyyyy, Jenna, wanna beer? I got one in the truck!"

Chevy Chase:
Chevy Chase's potty-mouthed Bush-bashing Tuesday night at the Kennedy Center (of all places)...
QUOTE
"(About Bush) This guy in office is an uneducated, real lying schmuck . . . and we still couldn't beat him with a bore like Kerry."

Chase continued his rant against President Bush which included profanity...
QUOTE
"dumb f***."
QUOTE
"I'm no f****** clown either. . . . This guy started a jihad."

Kate Hudson While filming her movie, "Le Divorce," in Paris:

Sometimes I'll be walking down the street and I'll hear some American and I'll just go, 'Of course they hate us, of course they can't stand us.' We're the most annoying, boisterous creatures in the world. I mean we come in and we eat mounds of food, and we're like, 'Where's the kaachup [sic] for our French fries.' I'm like, 'Shut up!”

Jane Fonda:

QUOTE 1970
"I would think that if you understood what Communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees, that we would someday become communists." -- Fonda, Michigan State University, 1970

APOLOGY 1988
"Well . . . it's not . . . I would like to say something not just to . . . the Vietnam veterans . . . in New England . . . but . . . to . . . to men who were in Vietnam who . . . who I hurt . . . or who's pain I caused to . . .deepen because of things I said . . . or did . . . I . . . I feel that I owe them an apology . . . my intentions were never to hurt them . . . or to make their situation worse, it was . . . it was the contrary . . . I was trying to help end the war . . . but there were times when I was thoughtless and careless about it and I . . . and I am very sorry . . . that I hurt them . . . and I want to apologize to them and to their families . . . " -1988

QUOTE 2003
"I don't know if a country where the people are so ignorant of reality and of history, if you can call that a free world." -- April 9, 2003

Chrissie Hynde: Another True America Hater
Anti-American speech on March 1, 2003, during her concert in San Francisco: “Have we gone to war yet? We (expletive) deserve to get bombed. Bring it on. "Let's get rid of all the economic (expletive) this country represents! Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win!”

Sean Penn – thinks bin Laden’s better than Sterns, O’Reilly

“I think that people like the Howard Sterns, the Bill O'Reillys and to a lesser degree the bin Ladens of the world are making a horrible contribution [to society]. I'd like to trade O'Reilly for bin Laden. [O'Reilly] is a grumpy, self-loathing joke," Penn told the magazine.”

Gwenyth Paltrow and hubby Chris Martin:
Chris Martin expressed strong concern over Bush and his stances at the Brit Awards in London.
We are all going to die when George Bush gets his way," said Martin, as quoted by USA Today
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow is ruling out the prospect of returning to America to raise her child - because she deems her homeland too dangerous. The Oscar winning beauty - who is pregnant with her husband Chris Martin's baby - has been living in London since settling down with the Coldplay star, and she has no intention of bringing up their child in a threatening environment. She says: “I worry about brining up a child in America. At the moment there's a weird, over-patriotic atmosphere over there, like, 'We're number one and the rest of the world doesn't matter.' And the guns in school - it's not great”

Martin Scorsese (maker of Goodfellas, Taxi Driver and Raging Bull) talks down violence

”It seems to me that any sensible person must see that violence does not change the world and, if it does, then only temporarily.”

Doesn’t Know Violence Stopped the Holocast
There must be people who remember World War II and the Holocaust who can help us get out of this rut
(Note: This is the exact same line as Dustim Hoffman spoke.)

Martin Sheen: US Troops are “Dogs of War”
One week into the Iraq War, wearing a duct-tape gag bearing the word "Peace, the wannabe president called our troops dogs. Where are the words of condemnation of Saddam Hussein? Does he even watch the news reports on how our "dogs" are increasing the risk to their own lives to avoid civilian casualties? Does he know many of these people would be future road kill for Saddam if we did not remove him now? Does Sheen know anything at all?
By some demented form of logic, the men, women and children of Iraq are relegated to 'collateral damage' as the dogs of war slouch toward Baghdad

Completely Clueless

“Alcoholics Anonymous and jazz are the only original things of importance" [the U.S. has exported to the rest of the world”

"Every time I cross this border [Canadian] I feel like I've left the land of lunatics," Sheen said Saturday, adding he was "proud" of Canada for not entering the Iraq war. You are not armed and dangerous. You do not shoot each other. I always feel a bit more human when I come here."

Barbra Streisand: Note: There is simply too much material on Barbra Streisand to print here. Virtually every word that comes out of her mouth is idiocy. Fortunately for us, her ego has driven her document much of her rantings on her web site for all to view. You can go to the official Barbra Streisand web site for some hilarious reading.

f.uck that bitch..I hope she burns in hell and I hope someone takes her there soon.

And I have to agree about Hollywood..for the Passion of the Christ to not be nominated for best picture or best director is final proof of the left leaning bias/slant. I didn't see the movie, but the rest of my family did, and many of my friends did, and they had nothing but raves for it.

Concerning the Oscar's:

At least they're fair. Neither Mel Gibson's nor Micheal Moore's epics were nominated for Best Picture.

can't really compare a work of art like the passion of the Christ that will live for decades after the fact and still be considered relevant to moore's mockumentary that will be studied in classes as important as 'the birth of the nation' and leni riefenstahl's movies, in the future.

funny you should put it that way, thud. My entire family sans me saw that movie, came back raving about it. I had heard how bloody it was, and have no desire to spend money to watch a man, even if he is the son of God, being tortured to death. besides, I read the book..the book is always better. Razzer

Well, it was ALMOST like reading the book, since it was all sub-titled! Strangely enough, after about 10-15 minutes, I didn't even notice that anymore!

Like you, I think that the book is ALMOST always better than the movie, but I guess it really depends on how well you read and how vivid your imagination is.

But all things said ... it WAS a very powerful and touching movie!

I don't think Moore's f9/11 compares at all with the Passion, they are apples and oranges. It was indeed powerful and moving.

I'mm not particularly squeamish when it comes to gore and violence, it's just that I kept saying "point made, point made, pint made, point made, point made...". After awhile it became the point of the movie. It should have been called "The Pain of Christ".

Thud, you're more right than you know without that being your intent. That was the point...to show the pain of Christ and what He endured for us. Gibson's vision of why we are not worthy. Ask youself, would you be willing to go through that for of loved one? Probably. But how about for a complete stranger. Would you go through it for me?

The Bible tells the story, but many of us don't realize just through reading what it would take to suffer that type of abuse. The movie, being just that...a movie, through the use of film gives us a better idea.

Back on topic...do I think it deserved a nomination? Yes. Not because it was the story of Christ but because it was well acted, well done, and very well directed. IMHO.

My problem with the Oscars this year is 2 that are up for Best Picture and Best Actor are Ray and The Aviator. The latter being the odds on favorite. And maybe its just me but I think Best Actor should go to the one who made me believe, for that short period, that he was the character. In an interview, before his death, even Ray Charles said "Jamie Foxx is Ray Charles. But DiCaprio as Howard Hughs...I just can't see it. He doesn't sell me. Again, IMHO.
