Actually...... there was a time that the GI Bill was optional. Late 80's. I was a Navy Recruiter from 86-90.

MikeD, don't feal bad. I was fooled by a guy who had claimed to be a Marine Gunny, knew the talk, everything. He slipped up by claiming to have been awarded the Navy Cross. His problem was that all navy Cross Recipients are documented and can be found online. He faked his "death" after that, got busted on that when one of the guys called his house and asked for him and he answered.

Damn good job, Mike! Had me worried for a while.
