Just wanted to let ya'll know..I am ecstatic..!!!

I am still going to keep on for 70% but this is the best news I have had in years..I still am having trouble getting over it..hard to explain how good news can really shake one up too..

For all who wish me well..thank you. For all who don't.. Razzer

Congrats Amy ... I have been "awarded" an initial 40% disability and am trying to get it raised to at least 60% (service connected).

I have been diagnosed with MS and have the typical joint problems (knees, ankles, shoulders) that hard work, PT, and walking around in crappy boots on hard surfaces for over 20 years lead to.

I am NOT trying to scam the system and will accept whatever the VAs FINAL decision is, I just want what is coming to me.

Anyway, good luck in your endeavors ...

exactly, pavman, same here! thanks for the well wishes, and I hope yours goes well too..I have fought for many years, and am happy to get this letter..called and talked to my DAV rep..he said, 'the battle is half over'..literally, like that, and I asked him what he meant, and he said don't worry, it will get easier as it goes, so I am doing the happy dance!

I presume you are claiming the 30% for a physical problem?
How do you get SSA or whatever you're getting also in conjuction to any other benefits?
OK I've been to P/CP and read you're claiming PTSD? Maybe it's just me but you sure seem to be online a lot and not many triggers are popping on you.
Just my opinion though. Must be you're claiming it for the few weeks in 91 huh?

That's better than I got. I'm at 20% for a bad ankle. It covers a couple bills. But the medical card is worth it's weight in gold.

VA and Social Security are two separate entities. Yes, you can get both. And VA benefits don't count as income, as far as SS benefits are concerned. And it's the same for disabled vets who retire and collect SS retirement benefits. Funny, I used to b*tch about disabled people, until I developed degenerative disc disease and couldn't walk.

But I claimed what I currently draw social security for..and upon the advice on my DAV rep, waited until now and now he says to add the other stuff too.

Well I guess what pizzes me is that I've had back surgery at Walter Reed while active, have bad knees, shoulder and Degenerative joint disease and I get a whole 20%.
Wow that almost keeps me in coffee.

are you still trying to get more than just the 20%? because to me it sounds like you should.

and wheelmech, I have such bad agoraphobia a lot of times I cannnot leave the house..I can't even open the curtains..never used to be like this before. I have nightmares, and weird sleep patterns..

when you say I don't have triggers that is why I laughed because you just can't see them throug a computer screen is all.

What is a regular sleep pattern? My usual sleep pattern is I lay down at 11P.M. up at 12:30, lay back down, up at 2:00 A.M., lay back down, Up at 3:30, lay back down, Usually between 4 or 4:30 say screw it and stay up.
Been that way for years. Did my time in the service cause it? I don't think so and really don't care.
Less sleep means I get more done.

If you don't wake up with nightmares or in a cold sweat, and if the military isn't the cause of it, and if you have always slept like that, then I guess it isn't a weird sleep pattern to you.

Wheelmech...I've had back surgery myself, and it's rough. I had a fusion L5-S1, with bone from my hip, cadaver bone, etc. They had me stand up the day after surgery...that was ugly, like being cut in half and sewn back together. And even morphine don't do the job.

Of course you wanted to do that. It's all about you.

But you still do not have the decency to back up your claims to a CMB by just telling what units you were in and where and when.

It's freakin shameful.

Why you think people are going to believe you on this VA thing is beyond me.

Norm, I posted this knowin I would get some flack, but I still figure there will be some who will wish me well also, and that is what matters. If I saw that anyone had gotten it, I would congratulate them, because I know what a struggle it is, but that's okay, because I know and the VA knows and just for today..that's good enough for me.
