'pears that whilst the Good Padre and I were off ' inspecting ' bases of NATO ally, Turkey, the No. 1 lad up and got hisself bumped up a rank and now sports a crown on his shoulder boards.. The lad achieved his Majority and now doesn't have to salute Mum anymore!... tsk tsk [ though I bet she can still put him over her knee in a fair fight ]..

so in the tradition of all soldiers/sailors and airfarcicals everywhere, the round of virtual beers are on me in this inst.

Also seems the Good Padre and I have to make a selection on what's next as well.. with only 3 years to go before they boot her out to pasture, the only way to promotion to Light Col. is position dependent.. she can wait 'til next April and move up to Deputy Command Chaplain in charge of 3 Brigades [ basically everything from Windsor=Detroit to the Quebec border ] or she can take a pretty immediate posting to CFB Edmonton as Base Chaplain or she can [ her preference ] be appopinted as a Senior Instructor at the Chaplain School..the latter two slots would also give her the opportunity to do a tour in Afhganistan before calling it quits..

The Good Padre has been angling to go ' in-country' for a while and was slated for a rotation last year but got bumped when the Gen. Staff decided a Muslim Chaplain would be better/politically correct...She's now back on the list and who am I to say to no if her number comes up? Never won an argument with her before, don't figure I would on this one either.LOL

As for the lad, well I expect he'll make regimental C.O. in the not too distant future, just don't want him to ' peak ' too early or he'll be stalled there until retirement. As with everything, the closer you get to the top of the pyramid the smaller the room to manoeuver and the fewer the slots open...

In true military fashion everything moves at a snail's pace until it doesn't and then they go like gangbusters.

Padre got the word she is on the Afghanistan selection list as of today with reporting for duty in Kandahar on June 16th, if chosen...how soon that notification comes back I haven't a clue, but when/if they give her the green light there'll be barely time to press the khaki undies and stuff extra socks in the duffle...

got to love military precision and planning...

daughter No. 2 just informed me that she has been bumped up on the latest round of promotions.. Goes from Lt. to Capt. on Apr. 27th..
