let's call him Joe. Now Joe goes into a Tim Horton's [ Canada's much better version of Krispy Kreme but without all the bad cholesterol ] and gets himself a nice cup of java to go.

Now Joe has seen all the ads for Tim Horton's game/giveaway, " Roll Up The Rim To Win " where a lucky patron can win valuable prizes [ or a free donut ] by folding back the lip on the paper cups and finding his ' prize ' indicated there, but he chucks his empty into the nearest trash receptacle [ at least he's keeping the streets clean ] and goes off to do his thing...

You can guess what's coming but stay with me on this.. Two young girls, ages 10 and 12 happen by and see the discarded cup on the top of the trash bin , and, aware of the giveaway game pick up the cup. The 10 year old has it but is having trouble rolling the lip over so she gets her friend to do it. Well lo and behold ' they' have won a fully equipped SUV!!! oh joy oh rapture..Rushing home they alert the parents.

And here is where the fun begins.. You see, under the contest rules, one could take the cash equivilent, one need not accept the vehicle.. so the girls, friends and playmates could ' split ' the cash prize but...

Mom no. 1 doesn't want money, oh, no.. and , as her daughter was the one who retrieved the cup feels she should get the gas guzzler.. and, naturally, mom no.2 figures it was her daughter who actually rolled the rim and discovered the prize so its their guzzler..girls are distraught as moms seek legal counsel and start threatening hellfire and lawsuits.

But, what of Joe?.. well.. he heard of the ' scandal ' through the media and realizes that he was a boner and gets his own lawyer to prove he is the rightful owner of the cup as he paid for it. discarding it was, of course, an accident, and any competent CSI type could prove it was his by taking a DNA sample from the cup and matching it to him proving the cup is his..

Screaming scheming and utterly blatant greed and poor role modelling all round by the ' adults' has left the two friends torn and grieving.. Coffe company can't give anyone the guzzler or cash 'cause its all 'before the courts '..damn claims and counter claims and the prize is going to be all consumed by court and legal fees leaving no one with anything to fight over, but fight they must..

and no one believes that the end of civilization is upon us...

I think its a prime example of a bunch of people wanting something for nothing.

Plus, what little girls are digging through rubbish bins anyhow?! I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, but my folks didn't let me play in trash cans, let alone root through them.

It boils down to too much competition is our society. People will go to great ends to prove that they are more “stupid” than anyone else and brag about it when they win. This is why I live in the country and have to control the urge to throw rocks at people driving down my road because they are just there.
