I was working with a crew doing line work for the railroad.
I had finally sky dived ,static-line,1200 ft.,during the weekend and was all pumped up about what I had done.My crew leader was an older guy, very quiet, hard as woodpecker lips.He let me run on and on about how great the jump was,I never felt so alive, blah, blah, blah.Man,I was laying it on to these guys that had never jumped from a plane before. The crew leader sez:"So,you jumped huh" Me:"Yeah, have you ever tried it?" Him:"Well, I had 43 jumps with the 82nd,does that count?" The whole crew exploded with laughter as I melted into the ground from embaressment. Jesus, was I a tool. A valuable learning experience though.Taught me to be humble and THINK before I speak.THE END IMPROVISE;ADAPT;OVERCOME! |

Understand your chagrin..
Once attended a regimental dinner where a young buck was going on about his paraskills and the number of jumps he had made.. heights. etc.etc..one old fellow shook his head and replied that he'd managed only three jumps in his life in the military.. Once over England in practice, once on D-Day with the Paratroops and once over the Rhine later in the war... The silence around the youngster was priceless.. Lt. Col. Denis Flynn 1st Special Service Brigade/ 1 Can Para .. damn I miss that old guy There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |

Hey dont put yourself down, you jumped, as a volunteer, that takes guts, how many people do you know hurl themselves out of a plane?
As for the WWII vet god bless him, and in fact any vet that made the jump. Hey just hold the phone!! how many of the other people that were with your work party made a jump? hey you did, that says something about your character, and you were right ot be excited and proud. Thats my opinion. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mike-d-1960, Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

Don't sweat it. I too have only jumped ONCE and am damned glad I did but will NEVER do it again.
It was funny though..... .....I got confused with another jumper as the ground radio person was directing us. When he said go left to the other guy so did I. Guess it looked like a ballerina dance.... The strongest tree comes from the "nut" who stood his ground. |
