20,000 Canucks ain't even Canucks now!

Hmmm, hey Rocketeer, where were you when you celebrated your 24th birthday?

An obscure provision in that nation's Citizenship Act — on the books from 1947 to 1977 — automatically stripped citizenship from Canadians who celebrated their 24th birthday outside the country within those dates without signing the proper form, CBC News said.

HaHa, Gunny:

They couldn't " de-list" me as I was in uniform at the time protecting the motherland in a vital capacity [ you can't run the military if it's paperwork isn't alphabetized and the pages aren't in consecutive numerical order ]..

Lot's of embarrassment over this ' loophole '.. seems that the current Minister of Immigration is going to be signing a few ' orders in council' to keep these folks on the books..messes up the accounting too as they all have to get retroactive pension deposits, etc. etc. Passpost office looks dumb too for issuing papers to non-citizens.. whole thing is one big SNAFU..

don't you just love it when gubmint screws up??

You do realise that "the Motherland" refers to Russia?

Auf m'lad..

Motherland can be anyone's country unless you want to call it the Fatherland.." what's in a name?" ..etc.,etc. [ apologies to Wm Shakespeare ]..

and, to be precise in terms regarding Canada.. it is " My Home and Native Land " [ to quote the National Anthem ]

P.S. to Gunny:
So far 450 non-status Canuckians have had to refile to get back on the books.. and its all America's fault.. If the USA wasn't so paranoid that the True North was shipping closet terrorists south and demanding we all have Passports before we go shop in Buffalo or Washington state no one would have discovered the -um - government ' filing error '....LOL
