As a naval officer and a newcomer to this site, I will spend most of my time reading other posts and soaking up the wisdom of other members like you. If I can add any value at this point, it is simply to recommend a book that I think other folks interested in the military would greatly enjoy. ‘Suffer in Silence’ by David Reid is based largely on the author’s experiences in SEAL training, and it is as real and gritty as any book I have read. The novel follows an officer through First Phase of Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training. To say the narrative is intense would be an understatement. I couldn’t put it down. Anyone who has ever dreamed of being SEAL should absolutely read it. You will learn more from this book about SEAL training than you will from any other source. Anyway, I just thought you might enjoy it. I got my copy on Amazon.com. I don’t normally extol the merits of a book to a stranger, but at least here I know that everyone has an interest in the military, and a truly inside look at BUD/S is always enticing. If anyone else has read it, I would be curious to hear what they thought of it. Two of my friends who are SEALs thought the author got it exactly right... said it brought back some interesting memories.

I agree with your comment about Demi Moore. However, I can't say I've picked up a romance novel in a while... I'll have to leave it to you to make the comparison. If having strippers shave your head during indoctrination is your idea of a romantic night, then maybe 'Suffer in Silence' would be right up your ally.
