The outer part of the tooth is called the crown. The external surface is the enamel. The inner part of the tooth is called the root. The tooth contains a soft spongy dental pulp which in turn contains the blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue. In other words, this is the living part of the tooth.
Tooth ache is a very common problem that occurs due to dental decay or dental cavities. Toothache is a pain or soreness within or around a tooth. This indicates inflammation and possible infection. A toothache occurs if tooth decay penetrates the pulp chamber which contains the nerves and tiny blood vessels. In such cases, a dental X ray is taken to determine the actual cause of toothache. If the root pulp is inflamed or infected, then root canal treatment can be done to restore the tooth. The other causes of toothache are swelling of the pulp, consumption of soft drinks, tooth infection and a crack in the tooth. The severity of a toothache can range from chronic and mild to sharp and excruciating. The pain may be aggravated by chewing or by consuming cold or hot foods. Home remedies help to relieve the pain in the initial stages. Ice can be helpful to numb the area. Over- the -counter pain killers can be taken to gain some relief from pain. Sometimes toothache may be due to a problem not originating from a tooth or the jaw. Pain around the teeth and the jaws can be symptoms of diseases of the heart or even the ears. Tooth ache may be prevalent in baby teeth and permanent teeth. Almost every one of us experience toothache in our lifetime. But it is best to seek professional help from a dentist and ascertain the actual cause of toothache. |
