A New York woman has given birth to healthy twins -- just three days shy of her 57th birthday.

Aleta St. James got pregnant by in-vitro fertilization and delivered a daughter and son by Caesarean section Tuesday morning at a New York hospital.

Baby Francesca arrived at 9:18 a.m., weighing 5 pounds, 12 ounces. Her brother, Gian, followed a minute later, at 5 pounds, 3 ounces.

The doctor who delivered them says the babies are in excellent health.

In a statement released by her family, St. James said she feels "love, gratitude and appreciation" for her "miraculous gifts."

St. James is a motivational speaker who helped her brother, Curtis Sliwa, set up a crime-fighting group called the Guardian Angels in the 1970s. She is the oldest woman to give birth in the U.S.



Can you believe this?? I just don't think it's right...for those kids.

yeah, she'll be just shy of 70 when they graduate high school. . . if she lives that long!!

she would love to show them to people when they come visit but she has to wait for them to start crying since she cant remember where she put em down at.

I am happy that everything came out alright for the family but and there is a very large but she is just to damnd old for that kinda thing, how is she gonna interact with to young kids? I think that she is to old to be doing this.

Why would an older Mother have trouble raising
children???
Many women this age are raising there own grandchildren and doing an excellent job .
Does it make any difference ??? If children are loved and cared for this is what counts ,not if "Mom" can run and play !!!
