When loved one's ask you these questions, what is your response? When anyone asks you, what would your response be?
"Why do you do it?" "Why do you want to join?" "Your not going to make a difference on your own, what's the point of joining?" I'm in my last year of highschool with hopes of joining the Navy to become a Navy SEAL, I have been training and putting all effort towards my goal. When my mother ask's me these questions, I know the answer to them, but I have much difficulty explaining it to her so I'm just curious as to what you guy's/girl's say to them. Tyler |

Because it's the best damn job...ever! Where else can you travel to six different continents? And NOT your typical tourist destinations. You really do "see the world". I got to go places and do things I would never be able to do in any other profession.
Who cares? As long as it's what you want. I joined because college sucked, I was bored as hell and wanted to "do something". Then, the Marines in Beirut got hit by a suicide bomber, I wrote a series of editorials for the school paper on them...pretty soon I was joined up. maybe there's something similar in your background?
BS. YOU personally do make a difference. I've personally saved lives....both service members and civilians. I (yes, just me) changed national policy and influenced a change in foreign government leadership. Very small teams working together (12 or so) have been responsible for some huge impacts-- tell me the team of 12 would have done it without you? These teams have identified some very bad guys over the years and made possible their arrest or elimination. You're going to make a difference, even as part of a larger team. Everyone (if they stay in long enough and go to combat) will save a life directly or indirectly. That's my proudest moment, not killing or putting some bad guy in jail, but saving someone's life. |
