Am I off base, or does anyone else out there think global warming is overrated? Personally, I don't see global warming as a bad thing, except for some low-lying coastal areas that MAY be affected a couple of decades from now. Some say it was the end of the mini Ice Age that started the Renaissance in Europe. Simply speaking, warmer weather allowed people to get out, explore, trade, discover, and invent, among many other things. And I'm not sure man is the main contributor, or even a major contributor to global warming. For anyone who has lived in Texas in the summer, or Alaska in the winter, they know that Mother Nature is a formidible, overwhelming force that man generally has no control over. Overall, there are many advantages to warmer weather as opposed to cold weather.

I think it's a crock...or not that serious of a problem...when there's "claims of evidence" on both sides of the argument, it's hard to tell though. Have you read Michael Crichton's "State of Fear"? I recommend. Even though a fictional novel, most of the evidence he uses in the book to debunk global warming is based on fact. Again, he argues both sides of the fence in the novel, but I think the the evidence against global warming outweighs the supporting evidence. And it's a pretty good read.

North America went through a period of Global Warming some 10,000 years ago.. result, the retreat of Lake Iroquois [ as the boffins called it ] and the creation of a fertile plain and new shoreline [ now Lake Ontario ] which resulted in land created upon which, eventuially, the megapolis of Toronto, up Canada way , was created..this, I presume, for most people, was a good thing [ although... ]
Since Global Warming is a gradual undertaking.. no one is suggesting that the Greenland Ice Fields are going to melt all at once raising the ocean water levels by 6 metres submerging New York al a Speilberg's A.I. and other ' apocalyptic films/stories '..maybe the concept of growing Bananas and Oranges in Nunavut isn't a ' bad thing '... downside, of course, is that Mexico and other ' vacation spots ' will then require SPF 5000 and the beaches will fry the skin off folks' feet as they dash for the receding waters in the Gulf for their sauna soak.. Serious crop problems will abound, of course, and this is the down side, ..since we can't grow enough to feed the people of the world as it is and can't move produce around efficiently even today,, the matter of feeding the world will be a big oopsie under Global Warming in the time to come... best we can do is enjoy the summer's boiling heat by burning more fossil fuels to keep the air conditioners running and sit on the proch and watch the extinction of cute and exotic wildlife who can't adapt... frosty breezer anyone? There I was , at the head of the old 68th... |
