Ol' Rocketeer is down in the dumps and ready to howl at the moon and curse the gods...

Had to ' put down ' by bestest buddy and drinking companion last night.. Guinness the wonder dog went dowen fighting, but the Fates were against him..

Pup wasn't up to scratch last week and couldn't handle his beer and steak so hauled him off to the Vet's...Poor fella had developed an acute kidney failure and it was a downhill spiral very quickly..

Couldn't stand to see him go out in agony and ' did the right thing '..but,, damn..

Good Padre is a basket case and I'm still crying in my bowl of beer and cheerios...

Best damn dog a guy could ask for..

damn and double damn...

May your pain soon turn into a smile of fond remembrance.

I have to echo Harry's statement on this.

Sorry this had to happen to your family and 'Guinness'. Great name!

My favorite is 'Dammit'

Went home after reading this post and spent some additional quality time with 'dammit', and his cohort in the turd hiding business they started together 'zipper'.

Found a turd in one of my sneakers a few weeks ago.....

thanks for the condolences and banter, boys and girls..

it's been a down couple of days, but I'm getting past it..

still it gets quiet at night and the cat, Boots [ as in: boots on the ground ] seems to sense something amis as he is being unsually affectionate and not chewing at my legs and walking on my keyboeard as he usually does, but is curled up in my lap most of the day..

Always had a dog and cat 'round the place since I was a nipper myself so, I suspect, I'll acquire another hound sometime in the future, just right now its tough to be sneaking drinks behind the Good Padre's back without someone on lookout or to run interference....

I'm so sorry to hear this, Rocketeer Frowner
I can't imagine how I will be when that day comes and I have to make "the right choice" for one of my guys. They are my co-workers and best buddies during the day.
But I know there is a person in heaven watching out for Guinness..she wouldn't let a hound wander loose without a friend Wink

This ones for you and the family...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
