Howdy all, don't get to post all that often but I have recently had something come up in my life. To fill you in, I've worked for Best Buy 4 years now and will be leaving to boot camp in a just over a week. Lately there have been individuals attempting to buy bulk amounts of virgin mobile phones which are no contracts and shipping them over to the Middle East, the FBI is looking into this for it is against "title 50 of us code 2401" export of US goods to foreign soil. This individuals have tried to buy up to 2000 phones in deferent areas, so they come into my store to try and buy these phones two day's in a row. On the first day we limit how many they can buy and write down all there info on who they are, and fax it in just how we're supposed to do. The 2nd day we deny them the phones all together. Two coworkers of mine start calling me racist for not letting them buy the phones and think I shouldnt care if there sending them over seas or not, they just think I should stay out of it. I told him that there are troops getting killed because of phones used in IED's WILL BE my problem in a few month's and if I lose a leg or worse and find a piece of virgin mobile phone stuck in me I'll be alittle pissed off.

Any how just needed to vent on this little item, and hope it's not to atrocious to read.

Good post Bogert -as far as your co-workers there is a lot of people out in the world who think they can just turn off the News and it don't happen. You hear people making statements such as I am a Quaker or a Pacfist it is my Right & My Duty My 1st Adm right to speak out against My Gov. but they refuse to support their Country but also insist they have a right to live here in this Country.

Now Sully, don't pick on the Quackers. There are some of them who are stong believers in this country and helped build it into what it is today. There are also some of them, as with any group, who do not.

Some of the most conservative hawks that I know never served a day in their lives and nither did their fathers or sons.

It is the people who do not vote who are the biggest complainers in my experience. Also, it is tough to support the troops while speaking one’s mind about the sometimes inept political handling of the war. That difference between the military and political reality makes it difficult to not sound anti-troops.

We have always had peace activists and we always will – what we need is to have support the troops demonstrations regardless of each person’s attitude about the war. We know this will never happen because of the politics involved.

Harry-- you are right about the non voters as far as demostrators for support of Military has also always been the Silent Majority or doing the job. I am a Democrate and have been all of my life but at the present we have no Party they are so far to the left they are like the Socialist Party and there is some very dangerous speakers out there.

bogert....kudos to you in stopp the sale and export of virgin cell phones. These could very well have been used to set off IED's. You did good. As for those co-workers...screw them. In fact, report them to management. People and attitudes like that are getting our serivcemen and women killed everyday. Thier attitude shows me that they would not hesitate to break or fail to enforce the laws concerning export of this material.

I'll post on this again between the 6 to 8 months when I finshes my training. I'll be over in the Middle East to see if there being used improperly first hand.

interestingly:

quote:
In a story Thursday about a potential link between terrorism and purchases of disposable cell phones, ABC Nightly News mentioned the purchase of a large quantity of cell phones in December from a Midland Wall-Mart.

According to Bill Vanderland, agent in charge of Midland's FBI office, no laws were broken when a group of men attempted to purchase a large number of cell phones from the Wal-Mart in the 200 block of Interstate 20 Dec. 18.

However, FBI agents responded to the incident at the request of the Midland Police Department, which was alerted to the attempted purchase by Wal-Mart employees.

Several members of the group were detained, Vanderland said, when authorities discovered they did not possess necessary immigration documents.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents ultimately charged one man for an immigration violation, Vanderland said, and two others were released after producing appropriate documents.

ABC's Thursday story also asserted a link between a suspected terrorist cell and the men attempting to purchase cell phones in Midland.

According to an MPD incident report quoted in an ABC online report paralleling Thursday's televised Nightly News story, "it was discovered that members of the group were linked to suspected terrorist cells stationed within the Metroplex."

However Vanderland said Thursday after the ABC report aired that assertions of a connection between a terror cell and the men who attempted to purchase cell phones from a Midland Wal-Mart were invalid.

"There is no known link or demonstrated link or any other kind of link at this point between the people here and any terror cell," he said.

ABC's online report did note, "ABC News has been unable to corroborate the information in the police report."

Way to go Bogart! I have a lot of buddies who would love to shake your hand. As far as your co-workers go...you should probably report them to store management. If that doesn't work, then to the local authorities. It sucks to Narc on your co-workers, but it sucks even more to dig shrapnel out of your buddies bodies.
