To my fellow Devil Dogs, hope this is the correct place to ask a uniform question, if not I apologize in advance.
Got out in 2000, before these Digital Cammies and tan boots. Just joined back up into the Marine Corps reserves. My question is that I have Jump Wings (lead sled, not the gold ones) do we still wear these on these new Digital cammies? I notice the pockets are slanted, so I have to assume there is a new measurement regulation for the wearing of Jump Wings? Or prehaps we no longer are authorized to wear wings on the new digital cammies? Any help, much appreciated. Also, whats up with these tan boots? Am I right to assume the days of shinning boots are over? How crazy is that? How does everyone like these digital Cammies? They certainly look different, going to take some time to get use to! please feel free to eamil direct with any heads up. Thanks again chrisnlaurie@verizon.net |

Yes, you do wear the wings....not sure how. And, yep, no more shining boots....though there are "care kits" to keep the boots clean and looking...."suedy" by picking up the suede with a wire brush type tool.

Boy.. say it isn't so.. has the Marine Corps fallen so low?
Didn't the D.I. go over all the details on the first 'training day'? Isn't there a piccie in the Comic Book [ sorry, Illustrated Manual ] of where all the bells and whistles get stuck on with the velcro bits? Damn, how things have tumbled since Dubya came to power. Still, the lads I met t'other night at the party looked pretty spiffy in the Dress Kit...[then, they were officers - or so they said ]... Float like a Lepidoptera, Sting like a Hymenoptera |

Well, back in the day, Rocketeer, I believe it would have been "I'll take those Wings in blood, Sir!"

Current Marine Corps Uniform Regulations
Hope this helps you with the placement of these devices on your uniforms. And yes, it covers the new cammies. Mr. Rocketeer
While your dribbling post was difficult to understand without a translator, I got the message. While after checking several uniform regs publications online, I found it addressed nowhere with regards to the wearing of ones jump wings with these NEW slanted pockets (as far as measurements go anyway)so YES, I did check the comics as you say, but figured I would go directly to the source and ask some active duty members. If that bothered you, then here is a bit of advice, ....instead of taking the time and the attempt at comedy, simply DONT reply!! And yes, my DI's and NCO's etc. as well as regs all taught me very well how to properly wear the Marine Corps uniform back in 1988 when I was a "Boot", but oh a few things have changed since i got out.......LIKE A WHOLE NEW UNIFORM!!!!! Thanks Gunny for the site, I got the lowdown! Still going to be strange NOT shinning my boots? PT Not sure when you went to jump school, but I could tell you a funny story about "Blood Wings". Anyway, thanks for the assistance gents Semper Fi |

Chris: Ha!!
Yer new here so I'll cut ya some slack.. that being said, I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the US Marine Corps and have more than a couple of friends among the ranks [ sadly retired, but still full of ' opinion ' ].. Went through the same ' confusion ' on where to stick the bits and bobs when the new CF ' Disruptive Pattern '[ the Relish Gear ] was issued as the issued illustration never covers all the variations and unique regimental ' attachments'.. besides staring at the CADPAT [ which stands for Confusing and Dumb Pattern among those who wear it.. ] I mean, c'mon, it may be great for hiding from the enemy in the woods/urban areas[??], or not letting the DI see the drips of relish from the hot dog but waltzing around the HQ and offices in the thing is just plain dumb " Where's Sgt. Ralph? " " You can just make him out by the coffee machine if you squint, sir. " Still and all, the son and daughter look nifty in their kit and the wife has a certain ...well.. she looks good in her cam suit, too.. way of the future, until they bring in the Starship Tooper Gucci Gear... and itb was no bother, thanks... You need to develop a thicker skin, especially while venturing into a new forum. That being said, you now owe the house a round of brew. Welcome to the site. Gunny
I "suppose" on the thick skin, but after asking what I thought was a fairly reasonable question, I took it like this guy was calling me out for not being able to find the answer. If that was not the case, no worries. New to a board or not, it's not in my make up to stand by on a perceived insult,.......although it seems that Mr. Rocketeer is the board comedian, so I will re-adjust fire ! Thanks again Gunny for the intel. I guess we are to center the wings on an imaginary line that runs from the corner of the pocket! Should make for interesting inspections! Sure was easier when there was a straight edge pocket to go by! I gots no problem buying the brew, that I can handle!! Thanks again Semper Fi |

Chris,
Rocketeer is an old friend, and in all my time in forums, you won't find a more likable fellow once you get to know him. Do yourself a favor an double click on his name and then look for all of his posts. Take a little time to read them and this will help you get to know him better. I highly recommend that you open up a dialog with him and you'll see what I mean. Rocketeer helps me keep a good perspective on todays events. Besides, the board comedian role is always open for grabs....he who tells the best joke or has the spiffiest witty remark or comeback. As for the placement of the wings, very likely you'll be getting inspected by those that have never earned the wings, so they won't know much about it either! The trick with the wings is to ensure they stay level while wearing the jacket. If they aren't level, then they become the focal point with the eyes of the inspector and thats when the ruler pops out! Since the wife is away sitting the snotlickers till mid March, I have been putting away about 8 bottles of Corona a night. Used to be able to drink 15 or 16, but those were the good old 'single man' days! Geez I'm getting old. Hey Chris, as my bio shows, I a civie. But if I'd earned jump wings, I'd have taken em in blood, dammit. Love to hear the story though. And thegunny's comments with regard to Rocketeer, I completely concur. Both gentlemen are the life and soul such as is of this here board and going back to GI Jargon days. ______________________THE STRENGTH OF THE WOLF IS THE PACK; THE STRENGTH OF THE PACK IS THE WOLF--Kipling |

PT I earned my red wings (blood wings) in 1969, BTW what kind of blood wings are we talking about? I don't think you have to be in the service to get them wings.

Chris, to save you the time and effort of reading too much – I am the resident a-hole at this site. I am sure no one will argue with that comment unless they think (falsely, of course) that they are.
