lying in bed on Friday last with the Good Padre when the phone rings at 0300.. Duty Officer for her.. Seems that one of ours was taken out by a IED in Afghanistan and she had the short straw for the NOK..

Good Padre spent the weekend putting things to right [ as best as one can in situations like these ] and is now prepping for the Funeral Thursday morning..after 55 KIA in the Stan things run pretty smoothly [ again , sadly ].. so Full Military send-off and ,of course, full media hoolah and coverage [ at least locally/regionally as national media is getting a bit tired of the 'show ']..

what can you say to a devastated mother and a sobbing fiancee?..

I take pride in how the Missus handles matters but find it hard to accept that it comes down to this sometimes..

sombre times - can only trust and hope that the ' right' folks in Afghanistan appreciate the sacrifice and work to improve things as a tribute to the work of so many of our soldiers...
