I'm writing this to find out some information for my fiance and myself. My fiance is a naval officer on shore duty. He's been hearing things about naval officers being pulled for tours in Iraq. He is a junior officer who did not screen for department head and plans on submitting his resignation letter very soon. Does anyone know the likelihood of him being ordered to go to Iraq?

SULLY1 and DR. UFO, usually have a better line on this. But truth be told, the Navy put out in a press conference, that more and more sailors will, in fact, be deployed to the Middle East in larger numbers. Accomplishing two goals, eliminating shore duty billets, and supporting the global defense initiative by providing capable service members in theatre.

dcgal-at the present time there is quite a few USN Billets in Iraq I do know the Navy at present time is doing a full re-linement of all Shore Duty personal after four years I supose that includes Junior Officers most of these billlets are for rebuilding Iraq but they are setting up a Riverine Force I don't know if it is complete or not.Best bet is just type in US Navy go to their Home pg.
