my son is in the army. his contract was due to end 6/29/07...but 9 days before this date, the army changed his end contract date to 3/19/09. He has been sitting in georgia, usa, with no orders for deployment until just this week. He's depressed and want's out of the army. Who can we talk to - was this legal to change his end date so close to his original contract end date? What can i do to help? any info greatly appreciated.

Stop loss is 'legal' as far as the contract goes...

What can you do to help?
1. Pray.
2. Offer encourgement.
3. Get treatment for his depression.
4. Talk to his Congressman's Office.
5. Tell him it will be ok whatever happens,
you will always be his Dad and will
always love him.

I hope all goes well with you both.

(Be sure and remind him 'He's defending Freedom')

Does he have faith in Jesus Christ. Even if he is killed the military can not take away his salvation and remember that God is in control of all things not the army, if it is Gods will for your son to get out he will make a way and there is nothing the army can do about it. Just dont compromise his word for the sake of the army. Amos 3:3 is a good verse for when he does get out as a reminder to not associate with thoes that act in a manner contrary to good consience (ie about 70% of military members I encountered when I was in the national guard). There are multitudes of ways that you should be able to get out with but the military is closing the gap on the loop holes and they are doing it by disregarding there own AR's like exceedance of hight and weight or body fat or excessive incompetence. If it is just the end of his 4 yrs they can keep him for 4 more yrs after that he has a solid law suit, and if he fails to report after his 8 yr end of contract I dont think they can report him as AWOL you will want to talk to a lawyer about it, you almost need a law degree to join the military these days unless your ok with being used up until you are KIA.

crabby1 utilize the ignore feature whenever this rppearso shows up and spreads his crap around. (there is an ignore feature that blocks him rather well) By the way, he's AWOL from his command. Not someone you would take advice from.

He is also, to put it mildly, a grammar nightmare.

Since my last posting, things have started to roll. My son has been contacted by Ken Salazar D from Colorado who requested he supply the necessary documentation to make an official inquiry into his military status. To clarify - he was stop lossed on 6/20/07 and according to policy, the Army has 90 days to deploy him after he's stop lossed (this is my understanding). He has orders to deploy November 1st which is outside the 90 days policy - so in effect the Army has violated their own policy and we are hopeful that with Ken Salazar's assistance we can get him out of the army. Thanks to all for blunk, straightforward thoughts and suggestions. I really do appreciate it.
