The Army is offering recruits up to $40,000 to buy a house or open a small business at the end of their first enlistment term. Since the new Army Advantage Fund launched in five recruiting markets in February, 2008, 123 enlistees have opted for the benefit.

The program is currently available in Albany, N.Y.; Cleveland; Montgomery, Ala.; San Antonio; and Seattle. Soldiers will not receive the money until the end of their enlistment terms. Contact an Army Recruiter for more information.

40K huh? makes for a good down payment at least! Seattle or San Antonio would be the best of the five spots to settle into after a good stint over there.

If they dont stop loss you. 40K isent squat, a small house in seatle will probably run you 300-400K, a buisness the sky is the limit. Maybe you could use the 40K to supplement the crappy GI bill which barely pays for anything and get a degree without any debt.

you don't qualify..bailing out of basic isn't on the list for collecting the cash...and, you're right... $ 40 grand is chump change.. .wouldn't even be enough to keep you in double big macs for a month...

Sounds good. Hopefully this will drive enlistment rates up in these trying times. These days people need more than just a creepy looking old man saying "I WANT YOU" to convince them to enlist.
