Hi, im from canada and in the reserves i was wondering what kind of rifle you would recommend as a practice/target rifle for off duty uses (i would like it to be similar to my c7 (m16a2) so that i could learn from it and use the skills during training and such

*all m16-ar15 and variants are restricted here and i cant purchase them until im 18

thanks for the help

If you are just looking to sharpen your skills via target practice, then a semi-automatic .22 cal rifle would suffice. They are relatively inexpensive and generally possess the same charactoristics you are looking for. You want one that has adjustable sights front and rear, so that you have the same capability as the M-16.

I already have a ruger .22 but i was wondering about centerfire (in either .223 or .243) preferably semi auto any ideas (this gun is so i can learn to handle the same or larger amount of kick and still make decent groups)

Both are solid performers and you couldn't go wrong in either selection.

I would go for the Colt 1020, I have an order in for one now, they will be comming out in late august. Basicly the Colt 1020 is the new M5 and has a gas piston bolt. How did you join the reserves if your not 18 and cant you order a gun off base under 18 or is the canadian military just as bad as the american military. You should be able to order what you want if your in the military.

Well here you only have to be 16 to join the reserves (17 for for REG force) but you cant go overseas till your 18 and i dont think you can order firearms through the canadian military (you cant even acquire a firearms licencse through the military)

I have heard that the canadian military prefers H&K weaponry which are far superiour to the currant AR-15 (the colt 1020 is colts answer to the HK416) so if it is true that the canadian military prefers H&K you should not have to much problem aquiring an HK36 or HK416 or even the HK91 which are all outstanding weapons, I own an HK91 with a claw mount and a 3-9 power leupold scope, its a 0.308 cal and I was able to sight in both the iorn sights and the scope with about 20 rds with out a boresight. Plus with gas piston weapons your not cleaning them every 5 min or every 30 rds like with the M-16 which is a complete piece of junk, never buy an AR-15 or equivalant with a direct impingment system you will be doing nothing but cleaning them and personally I have better things to do with my time than clean weapons 5 times a day. The only draw back to the HK91 is its heavy (about 10 lbs of course the AR-10 is not much lighter)and when you do clean it (after thousands of rounds) it is a bitch to clean and its definatly not a field strip, you need to sit down at a bench with a few basic tools to get it apart (you will also want to wear gloves to keep from tearing your hands to shit) also the rear iorn sight is a pain to sight in when you first get the gun out of the box but once its sighted in you can tighten the sight down with a screw driver so it never moves so that is a one time inconvience. Good luck with your choise of weapons and if its not true that the canadian military prefers HK then it looks like your SOL because it sounds like you cant order anything of any substance.

Can you buy a handgun in canada as a military member, the HK .4 cal handguns are very nice, but if you cant even buy a rifle you probably definatly wont be able to buy a hand gun.

Good luck

Canadian forces use only the Mp5 from the HK line our sidearms are browning hi-power battle rifle is the Diemaco C-7 (colt-canada m16) then c-8 is our m4 and we have the m240 (called c-6) and the saw (called a c-9)

I can buy a handgun when im 18 its restricted though which means you cannot be cacuht with it outside of the assigned route to your range of choice (retarded?)

And as for gun laws in canada Mil-or not the laws are the same so no select fire ak's are prohib ar+ variants are restricted so i think im goin to have to go with one of the springfield rifles unless the the hk rifles you metioned have not yet been restticted or prohib'd

You can't go wrong with the Springfield. You'll get many, many years of shooting out of that weapon. Good selection!
