Greetings
Can anybody help me with some questions about being stationed in Europe? I'm trying to find info about living arrangements. Any other good forum sites you can recommend? Cheers & Thanks |

Do you know where your gonna be stationed? Alot depends on rank, size of family. If you know where your to be stationed you can always google that area, Most military communities have a web site that will tell you all you need to know (ie: housing areas, PX's gyms and schools, hospitals, that kind of stuff. Hope this helps

Thanks fellas
I'll be stationed at AFNorth Brunssum NL. No family. Some of the questions I have are trivial but here they are: 1. Can I bring my water cooler? 110v compressor. 2. Can I sell an American Car and make a profit? I heard that they like American Fiat Spiders, American Miatas, Mustangs or even old American Porches etc. 3. If I buy a car in Germany, what's the red tape to bring it over to the Netherlands? 4. Its a 4 year posting and i am considering bringing a 19' trailer sailer type boat. I'll wait for your responses. thanks again Johnny |

I can't help you, I was under the impression that you were serious about info, not trying to go over there and make your fortune by selling cars and what nots. Are you serving the country or trying to make yourself rich? Besides I have never seen the military allow you to take a boat overseas.

1. Can I bring my water cooler? 110v compressor.
If it has a switch to convert it to 220v and an adapter since they don't use the same prongs we do. Or if the place you're living is tailored to the americans, then sure you can use it. 2. Can I sell an American Car and make a profit? No. 3. If I buy a car in Germany, what's the red tape to bring it over to the Netherlands? Probably taxes or a fee to bring it over, plus the expenses to inspect and insure. 4. Its a 4 year posting and i am considering bringing a 19' trailer sailer type boat. I doubt they will allow you to bring a boat over, unless shipping it over comes out of your wallet. Like Coach said, what kind of questions are these anyways? A little research on the interweb could get you more indepth answers. |

Not all Canadians are bad, but I do recall a CF-18 a few years ago, not being able to shoot down a weather balloon that a 747 could fit inside of.

For one. I don't care if your wife took everything you had!! 2. Don't be rude to the Coachman he was just stating the obvious. 3. If you were serious just put you were actually being serious. 4. Again I DON'T CARE about your personal life I have my own to worry about.

When Johnny Comms life was ruined, his family left, his house taken away, Johnny knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, "Why god? Why me?" and the thundering voice of God answered, "There's just something about you that pisses me off.

All:
Give the guy a break. He just asked a few questions that he obviously wanted answers to. We do encourage open communication in here...right? Not all have the vast set of experiences most in here have had during thier careers. Back in the day, there was NO PLACE or such thing as open web forums that we could ask questions and get a semi correct answer or anything close to the truth. Can anyone really find fault with someone whose simply looking out for his own best interests? I certainly don't see anyone dropping off bags of cash at my front door, or finding a suitcase full of money laying around. Fact of the matter, Europeans DO pay tons of money for good quality select American cars. Trick is or key word is 'select'. Most of what Johnny wants to do would be easier to simply purchase or make arrrangement after arrival and settling in. ie: water cooler, sailboat, buying a car in Germany..... On the last, buy the car in Germany and simply drive it back to the Netherlands and license it. Yeah theres fees and taxes and such, but thats just part of doing business over there. Dedicating ones life to military service IS something we all have in common in here. We all have experienced many of the same hardships that go along with that particular path. Loosing home and family is not an easy situation to be able to recover from, yet we do. We do it not only because we have to, but also due to the efforts of our friends and those that do stick out a helping hand. How are we to grow as a site that is noticably different from all the rest of the herd out there? Sorry if I'm getting preachy in here, but this cycle gets repeated in here all too often.
