Hi everybody,
I'm beggining the writing of the story of a few ex-military mercenaries and because I'm making detailed résumé for each characters, I wanted to know how many years it takes to become an operationnal Combat Medic. I already tried to look for it in US Army and US Medical Corps websites... but I only managed to get lost in all those informations ^^ Can anyone help me ? |

Associating a "Medic" or a "Corpsman" with a "Mercenary" is dishonorable...

Greetings,
I dont know about "medics" but I am a Coast Guard version of such. I am a Corpsman, I have been in the service 8 years, and am an E-5 (Second Class Petty Officer) in this rate (MOS). It took two years to become a corpsman ( I had to go on a waiting list, then the school was 6 months). Afterward there were still several C Schools I have had to go through to get special qual codes to further my training - Pharmacy tech, Lab tech, Independant Duty Tech, Enviro Safety, EMT-Paramedic, Flight Crew, Field Medic, ect.. (yes we do it all- jack of all trades) Anyhow, I am not sure what the Army does as far as training for their medics. When I was overseas in Kuwaiit they would come and go with their units on missions. A lot of them stood guard duties, ect. when they weren't performing "medic" tasks. But if you are interested in learning more about Corpsman let me know. |
