Does anyone know if a Civillian Driver's license is a requirement to serve? I was recently told I had a mild form of optic nerve atrophy. I am within regs but can no longer pass a DMV visual exam. My chain is really pressing the issue. Up to now I can't find anything that says I have to have a drivers license

SGT P,
By regulation, you are NOT required to have a civilian driver's license, as the command will issue a military license for the operation of military vehicles. In the case of having to drive a TMP vehicle or similar civilian type vehicle, you would need a civilian driver's license by GSA policy. Not having a civilian driver's license can prevent performance of certain duties associated with your MOS in specific cases. More importantly, your vision may result in a different PUHLES code, which could force a reclassification as you no longer meet the physical requirements of your duty position. If you'd like access to some of the regs, don't hesitate to PM me. SSG C CavScout19D30 "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in Fire and Blood, and come out Steel!" |

but to have a military drivers license you have to have a civilians drivers license. So your options are limited to walking everywhere.

XX unless the rules have changed you do not have to have Civilan license to have a Military license. But I think that pertains to Military Installations only.

You do not need a civilian driver's license to have a military one in the Army. The Air Farce might be a different story.

well I know in the Air Force you need a drivers license to drive on base because I'm a SP. But why would you be able to drive on base if you can't off base? It somewhat doesn't make sense because why can't you get a drivers license or why don't you have one? They are not hard to get.

XX Military Driver's Licenes as far as I know has only been for Gov.Vechiles only. Normaly also excepted Overseas for drivers off Ship or Base. Most States have always insisted you have a Civilan Driver's License to drive personal Vehicle on their highways.

I was just saying, the Army will grant you a military driver's license for military vehicles only, even if you don't have a civilian one; BUT (always a but) if you lost your license for like a DUI or insurance or something, you won't get it.
You would still be prohibited by regs and law from driving a civilian style car(such as Gov't Fleet Autos)/POVs, even on base. "Brave Rifles! Veterans! You have been baptized in Fire and Blood, and come out Steel!" |
