Had a bitty party for Father's Day, doncha know, and the daughter [ the Lt. ] is attending with her boyfriend [ also a Lt. but not in the same chain of command ] who , during discussions whips out some paperwork for the Missus, the Good Padre, to sign off on, if you please..... Surprise. seems he's drawn the short straw [ his choice ]and is heading to the 'Stan on the next Roto..this on the day we're notified of a major suicdde bombing which killed and maimed 35...

At least daughter knows what's what and all that so she's understanding of things, though she's still concerned over her squeeze who will be heading out soon for 6 to 9 months...funny, he'll be returning just about the time the Good Padre herself ships out for the same locale it now appears...won't be much time for matters as daughter is posted to base for July 9th to start training the next intake for FNG's

Son No. 1 [ the Sudan ' veteran ' ] also lets it be known he's voluneered for another mission.. this time it may be the Congo or Sierra Leone - to be determined - but deffo Africa...

guess I better buy shares in sunscreen ...

honestly though, you might want to start extolling the virtues of garrison life. Aim them at a few dens of inequity if they are that bored.

son has been back 6 months now and can't redeploy until a year's passed since returning, but he's already put his name into the hat for another go round on the dark continent.. Sierra Leone isn't UN but working with the local military training their troops, Congo is another UNMO bit...

As for the Good Padre, she's bound and determined to do a stint in Afghanistan before they put her out to pasture even though the higher ups have her slated for one of three spots up the chain..

daughter is pretty okay with boyfriend heading out, she's a good girl and knows the score..concerned but understands the lad's need to do his part...brother and mom almost had her convinced over dinner that she should put in for a tour, too.. not at the pointy end but she could go in CIMIC or Reconstruction Team given her skill set...

makes a man proud that his family steps up to the line and isn't about to shirk tasks when given the option..

More movin' and shakin' on the home front..

Daughter, the LT..has just called in, she's settling in to her new digs on Base..got word of her promotion and been assigned as Camp A/Adj..happy to be bumped up a pay level , bit sad she'll be pushing papers around instead of recruits, but glad of the recognition of her ' experience'..

Good Padre is off, as well. Posted to Base [about 2 hours away ] for July as they need a French =speaking chaplain, then shipping three Provinces west for August, then back to the big swamp training grounds [ 5 hours from the wee cottage ] for a 9 month stint as Base Chaplain covering another padre's rotation to Afghanistan [ and one step closer to her own 'visit' to the scenic splendors of the exotic east ]

all of which means that the Rocketeer has an ' unencombered ' summer schedule [ minus a few holdovers on the ' honey-do' list ]in which to persue a backlog of reading, view a stack of old movies and generally do my part for the economy by drinking my share of legal alcohol thus putting tax dollars back into the gov't coffers with every bottle purchased/consumed..

The gawds have smiled upon their most humble and obedient servant...I hope...
