Any US Consulate can handle requests for immigration.

How do marines have their free time after boot camp? I mean do they get some of their weekends off?
"One of my biggest concerns with Army doctrine is they actually train how to retreat."<---does this mean that you think training how to retreat is is not a good thing? If yes, why? I knew "doggie" means no offense. Thank You All |

d.....free time after boot? After being held in captivity for 3 months, a boots first inclination is to a) get rip roaring drunk b) get laid, c) get rip roaring drunk, d) get laid
Training to retreat. lets see now..if one has taken the objective in the first place, where does retreat come into play? SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL I haven't got a clue how to change people, but I am keeping a long list of prospective candidates just in case I figure it out! |

Before I join the Marines should I start training myself mentally? If yes, do you have any suggestions for that?
If someone fails to do something in boot camp, does he or she get kicked out immediatly or will he get a second chance? THANK YOU ALL |

You don't need a greencard to join the American forces, enven they probably say the contrary at your embassy. It's probably because you're country does'n't want their citizens to go away. Show them this : http://www.jagcnet.army.mil/JAGCNETInternet/Homepages/A...itaryBrochurev77.pdf I'm in the same sitatution than you exept that I want to join special forces in the army and I'll first finish my studies (in 3 years normaly). But I'll contact a army guy in US first, then I'll go to the embassy. Rangers lead the way! Phil. |

your document is geared to those already in the US military.....not those that want to join.

Phil,
Citizenship is not equal to having a greencard. I think the document from your link says that that if you're in the U.S. Military - because you have a green card you showed when joining - than you can apply for citizenship. I think it's kinda like the same as it is in France. Before I join the Marines should I start training myself mentally? If yes, do you have any suggestions for that?<----somebody answer this please THANK YOU ALL |

Marine bootcamp does this for you. Ain't nothing one can do to prepare oneself mentally for Marine boot. Physically is another story altogether. 3 mile timed runs, max pull ups, timed situps. But then again, boot can and will get you into shape. While the following Marine Corps MOS's (Jobs) do not require U.S. Citizenship, one must be a legal immigrant (with a green card) residing in the United States in order to join any branch of the United States Military.
The Marine Corps cannot and will not assist with immigration. One must legally immigrate first, and then apply to join the U.S. Marine Corps. Once an immigrant joins the U.S. Military, normal residency requirements are waived and they can apply to become a United States Citizen, after 3 years of active duty. One must be a U.S. Citizen to become a commissioned officer, or to re-enlist in the military. 0121- Personnel Clerk 0151- Administrative Clerk 0311- Rifleman 0313- LAV Crewman 0331- Machine Gunner 0341- Mortarman 0351- Assaultman 0352- Antitank Assault Guided Missileman 0411- Maintenance Management Specialist 0811- Field Artillery Cannoneer 1141- Electrician 1142- Electrical Equipment Repair Specialist 1161- Refrigeration Mechanic 1171- Hygiene Equipment Operator 1181- Fabric Repair Specialist 1316- Metal Worker 1341- Engineer Equipment Mechanic 1345- Engineer Equipment Operator 1361- Engineer Assistant 1371- Combat Engineer 1391- Bulk Fuel Specialist 1812- M1A1 Tank Crewman 1833- Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Crewman 2111- Small Arms Repairer/Technician 2131- Towed Artillery Systems Technician 2141- Assault Amphibious Vehicle (AAV) Repairer/Technician 2146- Main Battle Tank (MBT) Repairer/Technician 2147- Light Armored Vehicle (LAV) Repairer/Technician 2161- Machinist 3043- Supply Administration and Operations Clerk 3051- Warehouse Clerk 3052- Packaging Specialist 3112- Traffic Management Specialist 3361- Subsistence Supply Clerk 3381- Food Service Specialist 3432- Finance Technician 3521- Organizational Automotive Mechanic 3531- Motor Vehicle Operator 3533- Logistics Vehicle System Operator 4341- Combat Corespondent 4421- Legal Services Specialist 4612- Combat Lithographer 5526 to 5566- Musician 5831- Correctional Specialist 6048- Flight Equipment Technician 6061- Aircraft Intermediate Level Hydraulic/Pneumatic Mechanic-Trainee 6071- Aircraft Maintenance Support Equipment (SE) Mechanic-Trainee 6072- Aircraft Maintenance Support Equipment Hydraulic/ Pneumatic Structures Mechanic 6073- Aircraft Maintenance Support Equipment Electrician/ Refrigeration Mechanic 6074- Cryogenics Equipment Operator 6091- Aircraft Intermediate Level Structures Mechanic- Trainee 6092- Aircraft Intermediate Level Structures Mechanic 6111- Helicopter/Tiltrotor Mechanic-Trainee 6112- Helicopter Mechanic - CH-46 6113- Helicopter Mechanic - CH-53 6114- Helicopter Mechanic - UN/AH-1 6116- Tiltrotor Mechanic - MV-22 6122- Helicopter Power Plants Mechanic - T-58 6123- Helicopter Power Plants Mechanic - T-64 6124- Helicopter Power Plants Mechanic - T-400/T-700 6132- Helicopter/Tiltrotor Dynamic Components Mechanic 6151- Helicopter/Tiltrotor Airframe Mechanic-Trainee 6152- Helicopter Airframe Mechanic - CH-46 6153- Helicopter Airframe Mechanic - CH-53 6154- Helicopter Airframe Mechanic - UN/AH-1 6156- Tiltrotor Airframe Mechanic - MV-22 6211- Fixed-wing Aircraft Mechanic-Trainee 6212- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic - AV-8/TAV-8 6213- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic - EA-6 6214- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Mechanic 6216- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic - KC-130 6217- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Mechanic - F/A-18 6222- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Power Plants Mechanic - F-402 6223- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Power Plants Mechanic - J-52 6226- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Power Plants Mechanic - T-56 6227- Fixed-wing Aircraft Power Plants Mechanic - F-404 6251- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanic-Trainee 6252- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanic - AV-8/TAV-8 6253- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanic - EA-6 6256- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanic - KC-130 6257- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanic - F/A-18 6281- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic- Trainee 6282- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic - AV-8/TAV-8 6283- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic - EA-6 6286- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic - KC-130 6287- Fixed-Wing Aircraft Safety Equipment Mechanic - F/A-18 6511- Aviation Ordnance Trainee 6531- Aircraft Ordnance Technician 6541- Aviation Ordnance Systems Technician 6672- Aviation Supply Clerk 6673- Automated Information Systems (AIS) Computer Operator 7011- Expeditionary Airfield Systems Technician 7051- Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue Specialist 7314- Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Air Vehicle Operator SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL I haven't got a clue how to change people, but I am keeping a long list of prospective candidates just in case I figure it out! |

Hello,
I'm new to this forum. I have a question. Ever since i graduated HS in 2004 i wanted to join the Marine Corp, i went to a recruiter back then but all he did was have me take a test and then told me he would give me a call to check up. Anyways i was in the US since i was 14 and i always wanted to join the Corp i couldn't because i am not a legal resident(i over stayed my visa). I was hoping that the immigration bill might have help me out to join the corp but thats flogging a dead horse. I know the answer might still be "no" but i was hoping i was wrong. Does anyone know of anyway that i might be able to join the corp within the next year? You might want to know why in the next year, well...i'll be turning 21 soon and i want to do something with my life. I want to be a career soldier. I wanted to be a Career officer in the Corp but as i got older i learn't that taht was impossible. Anyways... Many thanks Danny |

You do have to have resident status or be a US citizen. If there is a different method of receiving resident status other than the green card, I'm unaware of it.

The Defense Attache Office (DAO) can usually answer questions about enlisting. This particular DAO seems to NOT be interested in dealing with requests, as it states on their web page, but here it is: http://italy.usembassy.gov/dao/enlistment-others.asp
