is slight red/green colorblindness disqualifying for infantry? i remember passing a light test when i was younger, but i doubt its too similar to what the military uses. i get all different answers from google. also, my friend left for Navy basic about a month or so ago and im wondering how his flat feet might be affecting him. thanks.

Yes, colorblindness can disqualify you for infantry (particularly the red and green type). Many life and death decisions are based off of signals/flares/smoke of different colors (red and green being the most prominent). HOWEVER, I've known folks who have proven that they can pass the test despite this (it "looks" green to them, but they "know" it's red-- so they can still tell the difference). And you say your case is slight, I'd ask a recruiter to be sure.

i just found a cool article about flat feet and the military by the "highly esteemed" NY times. apparently flat feet are good according to Army tests in 1989.

No one cares what the Army thinks.
And for your color-blindness, listen to the Gunny. I have explained everything above correctly, it’s your interpretation which is incorrect. I am above reproach, your obviously not, or I wouldn’t be talking to you. |

Ddave....haveta understand something here. Marines care very little about what the Army does, doesn't do or say. The real concern about flat feet back then was an individuals ability to march for long distances with a combat load. Our infantry in WWII basically marched all the way across Europe. Hardly any were moved via trucks, as they were reserved for the food, fuel, and ammo.
These days, infantry is flown in and flown out. It seems that hardly any units march anywhere except while inconus. SEMPER FI The Gunny PROUD TO BE AN INFIDEL America is not at war. The Marines are at war, America is at the mall. |

it was a study done by an independent doctor that just used army troops as subjects i believe. i guess i phrased it wrong at first. either way, have you guys ever come across flat-footed people in an infantry unit? did they have problems?

A kid from my church was trying to go Marine a few years ago, and discovered he was color blind during his physical.
The recruiter told him it wouldn't be a problem, but I told him he better look in to that. Apparently he could still get a non-combat MOS because the recruiter was still trying to get him to go, but the kid was ticked enough at being lied to that he joined the Army. And regretted it. We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. |

Are we a lil harsh towards the army?

HEY! Who let the Army guy in here?
It's all good Sergeant First Class. If it makes ya fell any better, in the joint environment (where I work), typically the Marines and Soldiers unite against all others. |
