My brother in law served as a Marine, and went into the Army to serve as a Ranger. Funny thing about him though, whenever I see him, he is always wearing his USMC hat, and all the pins stuck everywhere declaring to the world that he is a Marine. All of his sea stories are about his time in the Corps. He was an E5 in the Corps, and made it to E9 in the Army. At his house, on his 'I love me wall', there is only Marine Corps related citations and such.

Thats because the Marines are more widely known for what they do. The average person on the street: you ask them "Who is better, the Marines or the Rangers" MOST responses will be the Marines because you don't see commercials on TV about joining the Rangers. Also, of course his sea stories will be about the Marines haha, the majority of Rangers do not spend a lot of time at sea
Promotion wise, yah I can see people being promoted faster in the Army. Plus lets face it: Marines uni's do look good- I've always admitted that |

Well heres the news:
I have decided to change my ROTC at VMI from Army to Marines: What my PLAN is, is go Marines for a few years, then possibly transfer to Army and work my way up to Rangers. Now if this plan will work out, I do not know yet, but those blue spiffy uniforms were too much for me haha. Thanks all VMI Cadet |

I think you made a good choice. Sea stories are anything relating to military experiences and are generally told over a few brews. Sailors first coined the term 'sea stories' and Marines naturally picked up on it.

you dont really spend alot of time at sea. 6 monhts is the minimum deployment time. you can have more if you want, but you can stay on land if you choose, theres always someone volunteering for deployment.
as far as USMC pride, we have traditions heritage that go way back and still carry on to this day. ask any marine, they know the birth day and the birth place. im actually going into national guard, but still very proud of my marine heritage. no army guys have that. so many cars on the road i see USMC or marines or EGA stickers. once a marine always a marine, so why re-enlist? |

Time at sea will depend on your MOS. Me being a Aicraft Hydraulic Component specialist. I spend a good amount at sea, a Motor T guy. Not so much.
My problem with Army is that they have dummied down the title Soldier by allowing undertraiined, underequipped, long haired, goatee wearing National Guard claim the title. They are a joke to me. Every Soldier i have ever met has said "I was going to join the Mariens but... Fill in some weak excuse" And their bootcamp gives time off for Christmas. What a freakin joke. Lcpl Mcleod MOS: 6062 |
