My question is this i have heard they are going to be getting rid of the Mp positions and replacing them with civilian security guards? is this true and if so what is going to happen to the Marine Mp's. i am thinking of enlisting as a Marine Mp and i am just curious of what will happen if they do away with this position? also they said that the mp contract is for 5 years but i also heard there is a 4 year contract for field Mps? is this true? thanks any help at all would be appreciated!

I doubt very much they will replace the MPs. What you may have heard (because it's happening all over the armed services) is that "Gate Guards" will be replaced (a job typically done by MPs) with federal police or civilian security. That doesn't mean they will get rid of the MPs, just eliminate one duty they normally perform. They will still be needed in all their other capacities (brig, patrol, criminal investigators, handling detainees, etc.)

As for your other questions. Can't help you. Sorry.

Son have you talked to your local recuriter about any of this? That is where I would start first. I did look for any info on your question but no joy. check with any marines that are on board here, they can steer you to the right place. Good luck

I'm betting he's looking for that "things the Recruiter don't tell you...". I don't know of any Marine MPs on this board, so I don't know if you'll get any mo' better answers than this. I've never heard of a "Field MP"-- I'm pretty sure they don't exist. I do know that the USMC is lengthening contracts from the standard four year tours, and much of that depends on the length of training involved. The shorter the training school, the shorter the contract. My son, for example, was obligated to sign a five year contract because his training school is eight months long. Grunts (or 0311 Infantry) have a two month training school and a minimum four year contract. I don't see more than one MP MOS, I'm betting it's a five year contract, period.
