Excerpt--

Among active-duty enlisted Marines, 42 percent of men and 49 percent of women said they were retaliated against after they requested mast, the survey found. Among enlisted reservists, 33 percent of men and 70 percent of women said the same thing.

Ten percent of active-duty male officers and 80 percent of active-duty female officers said they, too, experienced some form of retaliation. Among reserve officers, the numbers were 35 percent for men and 100 percent for women.

Guns,

I missed this one somehow.

Request Mast. Seen it work, seen it fail. MyGySgt Ford, really needed to take this up through the Recruiting Command Sgt Major first and give him the opportunity to gain support and validation before he took that route. (my opinion) That action alone would/should have staved off much/many of the repercussions that aren't supposed to occur as a result of Request Mast.

Most of the time one or the other individuals is transfered as a direct result of the mast. Sometimes it can be both are transfered.

Gotta build up verifiable support in your favor before hand otherwise its your word against thiers. Especially as in this case, Enlisted against Officer. Writings on the wall without it.

The SNCO hit it right on the head when he said that if a MyGySgt is having this much trouble over Mast, what is happening to the young L/Cpl, Cpl or Sgt in a similar situation?

Commands really do need to educate themselves to allow for Request Mast to work like its supposed to.

I'm pretty sure I served with Issac Ford way back when. If he's the same Ford I know, he could be hard headed, but that's pretty typical for Marines huh?

New to the forum and came across this post. A fellow Sgt recently requested MAST after being assured that he would recieve BAH after reenlisting into an instructor billet. Several months went by and after he was told he was not going to recieve BAH he requested MAST. It didn't go well. He was Sh!@ on by the command and currently lives next door in the barracks next to his students. This is one of two I have seen that resulted in negative consequences for the Marine. He's probably not going to like his next fit-rep.
