Having been pooted out the arse end of a ship in amtracs twenty or so times during my career, these new fighting vehicles are a vast improvement over the regular amtrac.

The first time I went out the back of a ship in one of those, scared the living crap out of me! I flat out didn't think it was even capable of floating. Well, I was wrong and soon adjusted to the experience. Still got really wet inside though.

thegunny my last support group in Vietnam was at a place called CauViet when I first got there it was an Amtract Batt. belonging to 3rd USMC they used to sweep local villages.To make the story short just about every time they would cross the River in front of the shop 10 would go in 9 would come out and we would have to take a MK 8 over and drag it out my 1st Sgt. buddy in Maint.said they had been there to long.

yeah...they were a bear to keep running, especially incountry like those were. Bad part about them is they were like ovens with all the hatches shut an dogged down. As a result they seldom locked them down like that and were susceptible to mortars and hand grenades getting tossed in through the open hatch. If memory serves me right, it was an amtrac that got Carlos Hathcock burned when he went back in to get his buddies out of a burning trac.
