Ya got two ears and one mouth. So, listen twice as much as you talk. There's really no way to prepare for boot camp, except to be in good physical condition. As far as what to expect....there's really no way to tell you...it's a "gotta be there" thing. Just go in "clean" when you do ship out. No weapons, drugs, or anything else stupid-- and nothing you won't mind losing. Not that you will, but the first few days can be disconcerting and you won't be able to wear any "jewelry" (rings, bracelets...I think I was able to keep my watch on), but in all the confusion, you can lose some stuff. Good Luck.

once you step on them yeller footprints, yer mind, body, soul, and yer ass belongs to the drill instructor.
Gunny P gave you some real good advice about yer 2 ears. Anytime the drill instructor speaks, he wants to see little points on top of yer ears so he knows yer listening to him! Boot camp will condition you both mentally and physically. They will give you all the tips you will need on becoming a Marine.
Pullups, situps, crunches, running individually and formation runs. Focus on your breathing, if you smoke, stop smoking now. If you drink beer, stop drinking beer now. You go into Boot with fear about recycling, and sure enough thats whats gonna happen, instead focus and develop the attitude of 'I can do this' and proceed to do just that. Don't put too much stock in your fellow recruits comments or stories, they know as much about boot camp as you do. Marine Boot camp is hard to discribe to one who has never gone through Marine boot, but once you've done it, and earned the title of Marine, you life will have changed forever. Once a Marine, Always a Marine isn't just a saying, its a fact. Good luck and pay attention to what the Drill Instructors are teaching you, it may save your life at some point. Here, "Stumbled-On" this! Love that Firefox.
Here's Wes Clark's advice to someone going to boot camp, and actually not bad advice at all. Advice was to a reservists (I was one also in boot camp) and it does apply. http://wesclark.com/am/recruit_survival_tactics.html |
