Just study hard for now. It's difficult to get into Annapolis, great (not good) grades will be required. Look into JROTC (Marine or Navy).

And most people I know like to be called "former Marine" or if they're retired, "retired Marine". Good Luck.

I am Hungarian so I'm not from the US. So I would like to ask you if it's possible for me to join to te Marine Corps? Thanks for the help. salute sniper

You don't have to be a US citizen; however, you have to have USA Resident Status to join (or a "green card").

Thank you! I heard that too, I just wanted to be sure about it. Actually at first I would like to study in the US and maybe after that I'd like to join. Because I heard when I'm studying in the USA I can recieve the Green Card. Is that true?
Thank you one more time.

You can apply for the Resident Card....Not sure of how Student Visa Status can affect your chances either way though.

Try contacting a college ROTC group – they may have the answer because we do have a fair number of foreign students on our campuses these days. Or you could wait for an better answer.

Best thing to do is to establish contact with the nearest Marine Corps Recruiting Office.
Explain your desires...don't hold anything back.
Be honest and up front.

Thanks for the advices! Actually I don't think there is a recruiting office in Hungary. But if I can manage to study in the USA, that would be the first thing I do camo I mean to Contact a recruiter Smiler

Hello to the Military Forums community,

I am new on this forum but I have a few questions. If a person joins the ROTC in college(4 years) and completes their education at which rank would they formally enter the USMC. I would also like to know if after basic training atleast two years of reserve duty is obligatory.Any replies will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Zero.......Zero is slang for officers. All USMC Officers start out as a 2nd Lt., regardless of ROTC or not. They may have in thier contract, a stipulation that upon completion of training and assignment to the Fleet Marine Forces, shortened timeframe for promotion to next rank.

no, you have to go through OCS (officer canidate school) and pass all the tests, not everyone automatically become officers after you graduate, you have to have some sort of leadership.

once a marine always a marine, so why re-enlist?

Actually i think you are both kinda right.
If you read up on officers in the corp there are 3 ways of becoming an officer.

Naval Academy
ROTC last 2 years of college
OCS already in the corp(NCO)

once you graduate one of these and are comissioned be the service then you become an officer.
