USMC Networks ‘Attacked Every Millisecond’

Computer networks supporting the U.S. Marine Corps are under siege, its top information officer said recently.
Brig. Gen. George Allen, Marine Corps C4 director and chief information officer (CIO), said the service’s networks “are being attacked every millisecond of every day. During the time I’m speaking, we will have had 100,000 attacks.”
The attacks are being deflected, but enemies “need only one success to be successful” in breaching network security, Allen said in a March 14 address to the Washington chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. “Information assurance is one of the biggest growth industries” in the Pentagon, he said.

yeah, they keep us really busy these days. Since NMCI has been up and running, we have successfully defeated each and every one of those attacks. There hasn't been a single enterprise outage resulting from intentional attack. Granted there are occassions where a user downloads an attachmnet with malicious code embedded, but this gets picked up within seconds and the computer that has it is disconnected from the network and isn't allowed back on until we completely reimage the computer. Sounds drastic, but we have to slick and reload the harddrive. Spyware counts as an attack.

Before NMCI, these same type of attacks had brought down entire military installations.

Just once it would be nice to get some credit or recognition for keeping everything running.
