I have been out sience 2000 and I am interested in getting back in. I want to know what my options are....like what rank and MOS I would be able to obtain. I hope their is a recruiter or former recruiter on here that can help.

Not a recruiter, but came in from the USMCR to active duty. As such, I was treated like a "re-tread" and was processed with them. Many of them (and me) were given the option to either lose a stripe or lose all time in grade for promotion. I think many of the "older" guys (there was one who'd been out for ten years) were not given an option. Lose a stripe (from their last rank when they got out), but kept time in service and time in grade (which was adjusted using some magical math that I didn't understand). 0311 is wide open, USMC is expanding the infantry ranks as approved by Congress and recruiters are really pushing the 0311 (I know this from my son who recently visited a recruiter). Intel is also hurting and many MOS's are open.

I noticed you selected Cpl stripes so can we assume you made Cpl on your first time around?

What MOS were you?

What MOS do you want to try for?

What type of discharge did you receive?

How old are you?

Have you kept your nose clean since your discharge? (no felonies, drugs?)

These are the types of qusetions your request will generate. Be prepared to answer them directly to the recruiter.

I was a 2131 (arty mech). I would like to try for MP. I have had 2yrs as a police officer. I am now currently working as armed security at a local Nuclear Power plant. I received an honorable discharge and am now 31yrs old.......getting old I know. I have been arrested one time since I have been out for simple domestic battery which was dismissed......so I don't have any convictions. Well I am gonna call the recruiter today......good news or bad ...we will see!
