Saturday as I was leaving Home Depot parking lot there was a crowd gatering across the street I stopped and in front of a US Marine Rec.office to see about 20 young men watch a young Marine demostrating the operation of a M-16 it started to rain but it didn't stop the young recruiter he continued his Demo.until he was finished it made me feel that our country is in good hands.

Its to bad they dont teach you how to repair the trigger assembly when you have a POS military weapon that is not taken care of.

Stay out of the National Guard if you want the best equipment, tool.

Anywho, I wish we could play with weapons...I don't think they trust us enough to handle one without demonstrating a buttstroke-to-the-head of some poor Southern Californian.

hmmm, now he wants to take apart the trigger assembly of an M-16? The lower receivers which contain the trigger assembly needs no work by the individual soldier, with exception of keeping it clean. If something breaks, you report it to the commands armourer for repair or replacement. The one component they don't want the uninitiated to fiddle with is the trigger and select fire components on the weapon.

One thing I would like to point out to those in here, is you will never see or hear of is a MATCH Grade M-16. You will find new ones, well broken in ones, and worn out ones, repaired ones, but never one considered or labeled match grade. They just don't exist.

How many of us during qualification rounds took the time to follow the recommended daily cleaning after each day of fire? I've done it both ways, cleaned it nightly for the entire time on the range, and next time left it alone for the entire time on the range. Both times I qualified with high expert. The clean weapon score was only 2 points higher than the dirty weapon.

Gunny: I think it boils down to functional cleaning, and "for looks" cleaning. From personal experience, we had to inspection clean weapons when we returned from the field, or combat. Whilst there, we kept them clean enough to function without firing complications. I'm a big fan of, and told my Soldiers, I never cared if it was immaculate, just so long as you can put rounds downrange on target and not jam.

I think it is a remarkable weapon platform. It saved my six on more than one patrol.

I know. I was just wondering if anyone had seen a scoring difference during range quals. During range quals we had the option to leave weapon as is or clean it each day. After qual day it had to be turned in inspection ready.

I've actually shot better with a "dirty" weapon. I qual'd 39/40, 38/40 with a listed dirty weapon, and 36 and 37/40 with a clean weapon out of the arms room.

I think its coincidence, but I feel a weapon that has been used is somewhat "broken in" is more accurate than after it has been stripped and lightly oiled and or dry-lubed (desert ops) and sitting in a weapon rack.

You'd think with all yer larnin' you'd figure it out by yourself. I did. Just takes a couple hours to figure the damn thing out. And--- it's obvious you can't be taught things anyway.

BTW, unless you do have a few hours, NEVER take the front plate off the M203 trigger housing. Seems there's this little spring being held in place by that plate. When removed, all the little pieces in the housing spill into your lap. Never got to see how the pieces were in there to begin with and had to start working from scratch. That was a long day.

The quality of the ammo you use has alot to do with accuracy as well.

M203s can be almost a third of the cost of the weapon (scopes are even more expensive) and the grenades are difficult to find. But I think it would be fun to shoot off a few M203 grenades and drink a 6 pack when the weather is about 60 to 70 degrees out with no rain. I am learing how to maintenence a whole new weapon now, my new H&K G-3 way better than the M-16 quite a bit heavier but im only carrying it from the back of my truck (where the 6 pack is also) to about 50 ft away if not right from the back of the truck. I could figure out the trigger assembly on my own I was just disapointed it wasent taught in basic to change up the monontany of the typical field strip, but then again I was disapointed with the whole experence.

An here I was thinkin I was the # 1 jackass in this place, you mean I've been usurped? And in my own personal favorite forum room?

Guy's I would like to point out that this is probably a first, (could be wrong) but this is the first time Ronald has posted something other than his usual rant. Don't know about you guys, but I'd much rather hold a discourse on something like that rather than the other rant.

thegunny- you are right about your Ronald I don't waste my time with him if I did I would run around mad all the time but my point is this post was about the dedication of a Recruiter with all the Bull Crap in our Schools and in the Media against Recrutiers for our Military it was I thought important mentioning it was very much in my thoughts. As far as #1 jack you never even made my top #10.

Sully.... Your point about the recruiter didn't fall on deaf ears. My hats off to him for doing that.

As for Ronald. I was trying to be subtle in showing him we could interact with him better if he would keep his prior rants out of the conversations.
