Perfectweddingvows.com writes vows for newlyweds to not-so-newlyweds to those renewing their vows. But as a result of an inquiry by a soldier serving in Iraq along with his fiancée, perfectweddingvows.com decided to offer 10 free wedding vows each month to anyone in the military either currently in or back from Iraq or Afghanistan as a way of supporting our troops at war. Soldiers hear about this unusual service via word of mouth or through the Kansas State site offering volunteer services to its military families.

"I meet so many interesting people," says Gloria Christie, poet. "One couple is marrying as soon as the fiancé returns, wounded, from Iraq. Another couple has two children with terminal genetic diseases and wants the formal wedding they never had."

perfectweddingvows.com opened its website two months ago with an astonishing response. Within the first five weeks, close to 12,000 individuals viewed the site. In order to write individual, custom vows, Christie communicats with soldiers via e-mail. Every vow is one-of-a-kind.

"One of my greatest achievements was publication in a British magazine," Christie said. My youngest sister died suddenly and unexpectedly. Writing a poem, ‘Across The Mist’, was my way of dealing with the intense grief. Barbara was not only my sister, but my best friend and wisest advisor."

As a small business, perfectweddingvows.com requires two hours of community service of each person. Writing vows for soldiers who often have very limited resources provides an easy way to fulfill that requirement.

After receiving the original vows from Christie, one soldier in Iraq wrote, "I am speechless. I love what you wrote."

"I feel strongly that we should give back to our community," Christie comments. And the best way to lead is by example. I originally thought that writing the free military vows was a good thing to do, but I find that I get far more than I give. What I give is a small effort compared to what our soldiers are giving to us."
