quote: Posted on Sat, Jan. 21, 2006 Perryville to host , Ky. - The fighting will resume in Perryville in October. The Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site will host the 2006 National Civil War Re-enactment in October, marking the first return of the event to the site in four years. The Boyle County battlefield is site of the largest Civil War battle in Kentucky. "It's a real compliment to the state and a real compliment to this area that they wanted to come back so soon," said Chris Kolakowski, director of the Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association. The re-enactment is scheduled for Oct. 7-8, marking the 144th anniversary of the fight that killed or wounded more than 7,500 Union and Confederate troops in the Battle of Perryville. The event is expected to draw 5,200 re-enactors and 25,000 spectators, numbers similar to the 2002 event. Boyle County Judge-Executive Tony Wilder, whose great-great-grandfather rode in a Tennessee cavalry unit at Perryville, said the site is popular with re-enactors because they can fight on the actual ground of the engagement. Many better-known battlefields forbid re-enactments on the actual grounds. The Perryville Battlefield Preservation Association uses the event as it's largest fundraiser. Each re-enactor will pay $10 to participate, and the proceeds are used to preserve additional acreage related to the battle, Kolakowski said. The association raised more than $50,000 for preservation in 2002. http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/special_packages/iraq/13680667.htm(Bring your own jug...empty of course)
