Tribute 09 Everest
HONORING THOSE WHO HAVE SERVED THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN In an effort to create continued awareness of the sacrifices the Men and Women of the United States Armed Forces have made on behalf of communities nationwide, Frank Hutchinson, owner of ShadowGlen Golf Club, has spearheaded an effort to carry two hand-bound leather books to the top of Mount Everest, the highest place on Earth. One book contains the names of the Fallen Warriors from both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars and the second book represents all of the Warriors that have served in both of these conflicts. These self sacrificing individuals put themselves in harms way, in order to protect our Nation. This great act of selflessness, so profound that few will ever understand and even fewer are willing to make, is what we as a Nation have relied on each day. Over this past Memorial Day Weekend, by the sheer determination and patriotism of Hutchinson, both books successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest. While in name, these two books represent the present two Wars; symbolically, they are a tribute to all who served in the United States Armed Forces past, present, and future. Frank will be returning shortly from Mount Everest with the books which can be used to serve communities by representing the sacrifice of these Veterans. The journey of the books to Mount Everest is also a personal Tribute to Frank’s own father, Major Franklin G. Hutchinson Jr., USMC, a decorated Vietnam Veteran who served the United States from 1951-1971. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
