Box 2469, Warner Robins, GA 31099 www.museumofaviation.org Contact: Bob Dubiel bdubiel@museumofaviation.org (478) 926-6870 Release #2008-50 September 23, 2008 NOTE TO NEWS MEDIA: Invitation to View WWII Hangar Exhibit Construction News Media are invited to the Museum of Aviation this Thursday, September 25 at 10:30 a.m. to view construction progress of the newest World War II Exhibit which will open to the public on October 17. Down to Earth: The 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the Air Invasion of Normandy, is the first exhibit being set to open in the new hangar during the Museum’s Gala Weekend October 17-18. This comprehensive 6,000 square foot exhibit tells the story of the June 6, 1944 allied invasion of Europe known as “D-Day” and features walk-through dioramas on the planning and execution of the operation to free Europe from Nazi Germany. It features authentic weapons and artifacts from World War II, the story of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment, a new classroom for children to understand the fight for freedom in World War II and a new 24-minute film entitled Papa Said – We Should Never Forget. A ribbon cutting and Black Tie Gala Dinner will be held on Friday evening, October 17, with a special patriotic program by the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note ‘Glen Miller Heritage’ band. Reservations are required to attend. To make a reservation call the Museum of Aviation Foundation at 923-6600 or register on the web at www.museumofaviation.org. On Saturday, October 18, Lee Greenwood will perform a free public concert in front of the Museum at 5:30 pm with the Band of the Air Force Reserve. Reservations are not required for this event. Attendees are being asked to bring their own lawn chairs. The exhibit preview for news media will feature a tour of the construction area in the hangar and interviews with Museum officials and several key people involved in the exhibit construction. Media may park in the small parking lot immediately to the north of the new hangar.
