What is true America?

Is the true America the segregated misogynist 1950s or some other such ideal that does not fit everyone’s desires? Maybe we need parents to instill service to others (not just the military but the community) as an honorable thing instead of rampant materialistic greed (which does keep the Chinese economy rolling along).
