There are ways to "lessen" the scuff (we're talking Coraframs or the like, correct?). Duraglit (brass cleaner) most times works. I also have rubbed petroleum jelly into the scuff and it (while doesn't go away) become less noticeable.

When I got mine scuffed I would use petroleum jelly and your right they don't go away, but that was cheaper than buying new shoes everytime you scuffed them up.

Go to the exchange and purchase new ones. Remember, always keep a pair for inspection, and a pair for daily wear. NEVER mix them up, and keep the inspection pair in the box they came in.

Or you could buy the patent leather ones and spit shine those for inspections. Believe me, they make a better impression on the inspector than showing up in coraframs.

Reminds me of a funny thing that I did at Fort Sill when I had just been promoted to PFC.

(Bear with me...)

The Open Bay Barracks provided a grand view of Army life.

There was this one troop PFC Gracia... This guy did every thing himself and did it great.
Spit shined Boots and Low Cords. Polished Brass.
Starched and ironed uniforms. Perfect.
(he even gave haircuts)

Anyway oneday I saw him washing his fatigues
in a latreen sink. He was adding starch.
Later after He had dried and ironed them they were 'perfect'.

We had this big inspection coming up and I had dropped off my fatigues at Quarter Master Laundry but for some FUBAR reason, my laundry was not ready the day before inspection.

I remembered PFC Gracia's skills and thought 'well it looked easy enough' so I bought some lundry stuff at the PX and here the night before inspection off I go into the latreen and took off my starched fatigues which I'd been 'carefully' wearing for about 3 days and washed them...the only set of fatigues I had available...which had been starched (heavy) by Quarter Master Luundry
the week before.

I used hot water and after soaping...adding softener and rinsed I added the starch.

There I am at the sink looking down seeing this is not going well...the fatigues had this cracked pattern of starch marks all over them. Olive Drab with all these little white crack marks.

I figured I could 'iron the cracks out'.

Noooo...I only ironed in and set this pattern of wrinkles.

Well there I was. Standing at attention in formation wearing this 'outfit'. Here comes the
Battalion Commander... the Company C.O. and the First Sgt. and they all are passing down the formation and all stop in front of me.

The Battalion Comander was a full bird Artillery Colonel and this Field Grade
Officer looks me up and down.

(my heart sank) I had visions of me as Pvt. Robert E. Lee Prewitt double timing with full field gear and weapon at port arms and digging
trenchs from 'Here to Eternity'.

The Colonel sez 'PFC You Must Be Kidding Me'.
The entire formation about 300 troops laughed.

The Company C.O. asked 'What I was thinking?'

I replyed that I wished to show initiaive
when I couldn't get my uniforms back from
Quarter Master Laundry in time for inspection
but my laundry skills were lacking.

(more laughter)

The First Shirt said: 'It Would
Behoove You If You Would Get Your Uniforms Into Quarter Master Laundry In A More Timely Manner'.

YES FIRST SERGENT!

No additional punishment other than the humiliation suffered at formation and the continued abasement back in the barracks!

Whew!!....

PFC Garcia later told me he was glad I didn't mention His name and he was good enough to give me a few pointers.

After That...
I always had a special set of inspection articals and spare uniforms ready.
(the costs were worth it)

I never tried to restarch quarter master laundry again...
