Have any of you seen this website www.cannonartillery.com? The "Artillery in today's fight" section has some pretty cool info and stats on how cannons are being used in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do you think cannons get enough credit for their role in today's battles?

Not since Nam. But then again, no one has tried to overrun an arty battery since then either. Ever seen a beehive round in action?

The TEXAS is the last of the battleships, patterned after HMS Dreadnought.

Texas? The USS Iowa was used last year as a Missile Platform, right? And the USS Kentucky was the last battleship built, only to be scraped to rebuild the USS Wisconsin. Unless you are talking about the British battleships. I only know about the American battleships because all other countries stopped using theirs. And the USS Louisiana was going to be built as the last battleship, but it was cancelled in 1943.

The 'Texas' IS a U.S. Battleship (a mighty old gal with a Brit Bint's lilt...nice lines though)

Last time I was in Norfork Va. the Wisconsin was berthed just below my Hotel window...near the 'Nautilus museum'...which BTY...is a great site.

I saw a section of 'Ironclad' fresh up from the 'Monitor'.

Downtown...I also got to see the resting place of General Douglas McArthur. I almost choked up when I turned a corner and saw 'that hat' with all the scrambled eggs on it...along with the corn cob pipe. Wow...

Norfork's great.

It is a great area, lots of history, next time time you're out, check out Ft Monroe (on "the other side" of the bay)-- Casement Museum- has been an active fort since before the Civil War (you can see gun lines from Civil War, WWI, WWII). The museum's main feature is the cell where Jefferson Davis was held after the war (across the street from that, Lt Robert E. Lee lived in one of the officer's quarters-- the house is STILL base housing, so no tours). Oh, and not to be too nit picky- but it's The Nauticus Naval Museum, not Nautilus. Next time you're out, let me know, I'll show you around.

Years ago I did indeed also tour the 'Nautilus' SSN571...up at Groton...Groton's got good
muesums as well as great pizza...but that crab dip at Joe's Crab Shack on the Chesapeake is mighty tasty too.

I'd be pleased if we crossed trails on my next visit...I'm still 'Politicing' for a Navy DOD Weather slot in your neighborhood...and it would be nice to see the rains again.
