Without breaking OPSEC...we have several. I cant be specific, but we have units all over including Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq.
I was stationed with a Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron and deployed to the middle east a couple yrs back when things first started getting ugly over there.
Worked in the rear with the Marines, and loved working with those guys, never felt safer.
If you were a good "Doc" to them, there wasnt nothing they wouldnt do for you.

If you are talking pulling Patrol Boat duty...
Its like history repeating itself! we have a handful of aging 110 ftrs over in a unit called PATFOR SWA (Pacific Forces Southwest Asia) stationed in Bahrain. These guys on the 110's are currently pulling out 1 year tours over there...doing 22 days u/w, and 5 days in port, back u/w 22 back in 5. For a year straight!

But I thought it was interesting how they had the same concept back in Nam regarding utilizing the 82 ft workhorses. Not sure if it was more or less of a rigerous schedule but they definetly get their "hours" in underway. The sad thing I saw happening over there was the O-3 (Charlie Oscars/Commanding Officer) was coming away with the whole thing with a Bronze Star medal, the crew recieved an atta boy, and a ribbon.
However the motivation of our active duty and reserve force to volunteer to go over there and do that job is over flowing! their is actually a waiting list for billets to get on a tour.

Runsprockett nothing new on the Ribbon concept never saw it as a problem it is the same in all branches of the Military I never went there for decroations anyway I went because my Country ask me to.The reason the WPB's did work well the USN PCF,s could not handle the Coastal Patrol. The Congress and people chooseing boats did not understand the storms on the Asian Coastal region.I had about 9 yrs in by the time I went to Vietnam I had been in a couple of storms in the Taiwan Straights and they were rough the coast of Vietnam was the same.I doubt very if our (D) Congress is going to change anything they usually let the USCG & Brownwater Navy run down the tube so far it takes a conflict to build it up.

And I am sure those WPB's wont be seeing any more tours INCONUS after PATFOR SWA is decommisioned.
My thought right now is wondering how long they will leave that unit stood up over there. How long is congress going to pay for it. As they already pulled the Coast Guard out of (Port Security Unit Mission) as it was easier to fund a "Navy" unit to do the job, which peeved a lot of Coastie folks off.
It will be interesting to see where it all takes us.
camo As always.....Semper Paratus! for whatever comes our way!

runsprockett-A question are the WPB's in PATFOR SWA all old re-engined 82 foot Point Class.I was under the impression they were over-hauled just for Homeland Security and the job they are doing.
