Saw the new Kevin Costner movie 'The Guardian' yesterday. Great flick. This movie will do for the Coast Guard, what the movie 'Top Gun' did for the Navy.....

Really enjoyed the slant they put on the bar fight scenes.

Hey, my 20 year-old-son is strongly considering joining the Coast Guard. He has a year of college, is athletic and healthy, and an all-around good kid (no legal problems etc.), as far as I know. He will be meeting with a recruiter next week. Any tips, suggestions or information from anyone out there?

TOW,
What's he interested in doing? Got a few good friends who are USCG civilians (GS grades). Couple down in TX, one up at Portsmouth, VA. All intel, which is a fairly new thing for the USCG and an expanding capability/job skillset. Also have (somewhere) the Director of CounterIntel's business card...he was a former CO of mine. Drop a PM or email.

Tow Gunner, just a heads up for your son.... aviation rates in the CG advance slowly, which also means that the waiting lists for those A schools are long. My suggestion would be to have him visit a CG unit and see what the different ratings do for as living.
