One of the foreign terror suspects detained under emergency laws has been granted bail, it has been confirmed.
A Department for Constitutional Affairs spokesman said Jordanian-born Mahmoud Suliman Ahmed Abu Rideh had been granted bail by the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac). The man had not yet been freed, said the spokesman. "Terms and conditions are still to be worked out," he said. Abu Rideh was among the first eight people to be detained - without charge or trial - under the Anti-Terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001. He was picked up by police on December 19, 2001, just five days after the Act won Royal Assent. He was initially detained at Belmarsh prison in south-east London but in July 2002 was transferred to Broadmoor secure hospital due to psychiatric problems. He failed to secure his freedom from Siac in 2003, when the panel concluded: "There is both a reasonable belief that the appellant's presence in the United Kingdom is a risk to national security and a reasonable suspicion that he is a terrorist within the meaning of ... the 2001 Act." The report also noted: "He has real difficulties in handling stress and finds it necessary to spend time on his own in the dark. "He told us that he knew that he had always been regarded in the communities in which he had lived as somewhat crazy." The bottom line is this man will released into the public domain!! You know, I sometimes really wonder!! Train Hard, Fight Easy. |

I wonder if by mistake the law SOMETIMES confuses terror suspects w/ those that should recieve the full scale rights of the accused.

So he has made bail...given his statements, can't he be locked in an insane asylum involuntarily..'for his own good' of course, so that way he can still be kept track of better?
