Sorry to hear that ,Rocketeer.
When Special Forces were running the show, they had taliban on the run.
Lost focus I guess, when Iraq heated up.
God bless the lads doing a tough, dirty job against a fanatical foe.

My Grandson was a product of Fort Lewis he did 4 turns in Iraq came back and got out then was called back for another turn they had a pretty bad deployment he changed a lot but my Son had watched how my Mom & Dad had supported me when I came back from Vietnam so everything is OK he is a Smoke Jumper in Montana and doing fine.

I only wish that was enough to soothe my stress about this deployment. In a year when they are state side will be unloading everything, and it won't be pretty.

sad details here:

http://www.theglobeandmail.com...ttle/article1239866/

and here:

http://news.sympatico.msn.ctv....stan_soldiers_090802

losses in dribs and drabs makes for a more depressing time as erosion of confidence over the mission sets in..

RIP to the lads and condolences to the families..

This was a topic of conversation over dinner last night as son and soon-to-be-son-in-law were debating merits of taking on new deployments..Son has been offered Congo and Sierra Leone, but had to withdraw as he's been given a new command and son-in-law has to wait out his time after returning from the 'Stan and isn't allowed to go on anything for a year after his return [ post-deployment/shake down time to make sure all is okay heart/mind wise ]..which suits my daughter just fine..

Good Padre is on the list to deploy, but, as she's just been handed new posting, its not likely her name will top a list soon...

Good Padre and I just finished watching an HBO film with Kevin Bacon: "Taking Chance"

story of Lt. Col, Mike Strobl, USMC, escorting a marine's remains home for burial...

GP was comparing notes on how its done up here, to what was portrayed in the film...most impressive and a tale that gets lost in the whole 'War' issue..

She's prepping for the return of the two boys just lost.. they arrive back on the 4th and travel the Highway of Heroes that day...

I'm not ashamed to admit it but I had some sort of eye problem while watching that movie.
My damn eyes kept filling with water.
