Coach:

The Great Stone Mayan Calendar found in South America...covered thousands of years and was incredibly accurate in counting days/leap years/ etc. more sophisticated than any European device at the time.. Covered all the years up to 2012, predicting lunar cycles, etc. etc... Calendar ends for that year and, so far, no one's turned up the 2013 edition..so, typical..nutbars, loonies and conspiraweebs are predicting when the calendar ends so do we..

back on thread.. just talked to wife who is now not sure she'll be home for New Years as she bounces from one situation to another..she's recalling her chaplains from leave to cover off, but she's conducted one funeral today, a bunch of family visits and tended to two soldiers in critical ICU who may have some contagious disease [ medics are thinking diptheria?? - which could mean she'll have to go into isolation FFS!]..

In meantime, bodies of latest three KIA in the 'Stan return tomorrow and Ramp Ceremonies and travel on Highway of Heroes scheduled for mid-afternoon which means media coverage and other issues...Great way to start the year off...

The Mayan Calender? Odd how they can foresee our doom yet not there own eh? I believe it was BAD FARMING and lack of crop rotations that led to their gloom. Don't hold your breath on those Mayan forecasters, you might catch the evil Y2K disease.

Back to reality, sorry to hear about those young men and to those who lost them.

Sorry to hear this yet again, so soon. Seems to be one of the most common thread topics these days.

Sadly, most of the explosives used in Afganistan are leftovers from when Russia was heavily engaged there. (and of course that which the CIA shipped over too)

Good Padre came home for the weekend Friday night...just settled in when her tether [ blackberry ] went off at 0730.. Bye, bye, honey and back to base...I was privy to the news but had to wait until the family was told and media hounds could be released to get the story...so, here it is.

Sad, but it has to told...

Call out the Prozac Police!

it has indeed been a rough night at the ol' Rocketeer's..

Can't seem to calm the daughter down, she's bouncing off the walls..

Her Fiance returns from the 'Stan on Monday [ unscathed -well, maybe some sunburn ] and she's all 'cited and anxious and whatnot after 14 months without her man [jeez!!]

Guy is in Cyprus right now being ' debriefed ' and ' decompressed ' before flying to Germany and then home..

Dad here is arranging transport for the daughter to hook up with the Good Padre and they'll head out to the Base on Saturday to get ready for the arrival and inevitable photo ops of returning troops...

Guess I can be thankful that things will return to ' normal' for a bit..at least until the wedding plans go into high gear- they're getting hitched in August.

is it too early for a beer?

It's always Happy Hour somewhere......I've never been one to pay too much attention to the artificiality of these time zones we're so fond of.....

Typhoon...there is a 'greater' than zero chance they're correct.

Rocketeer...congrats to the homecoming.
Give them our collective thanks and well done
when you can. You and the 'Good Padre' may God Bless and it sounds like God has done just that.
BTW...shoot off a red glare virtual too...

We'll be looking forward to another little Padre/Rocket rug rat come 'bout May-Day '10!

Just don't let 'em name him 'Stan'...unless they just have to...
