This story has got " Typhoon Tirade" written all over it.[ go for it Typh! ]

Guess this CEO never got Prezzy Obama's memo of uplifting speechifying about 'fiscal restraint' and ' executive responsibility'..

still, why not cash in the chips when you got the winning hand or some such poker reference?

I'm talking about Aubrey McClendon of Chesapeake Energy Corp.
in case you missed the tale:

Seems ol' Aubrey had a sweetheart of a sweetheart deal.

In 2008 he was -erm - paid $ 112.5 million [ highest paid CEO on the S&P 500 Index ]..but, that wasn't quite enough.. he also got a - wait for it - $ 75 million ' bonus '[ and the rest of the company and shareholders got the shaft - BTW - his bonus for 2007 was 'only ' $ 1.83 million ]

Story is that he had $ 2 Bil in company stocks - okay, good so far.. and he then ' monitized' them, using the shares as collateral for hundreds of millions of personal loans..

Then, probably because he was more concerned about his own personal fortunes rather than the company's prospects.. the stocks fell with the economy and Aubrey was on the hook for the margin loan calls when they came due forcing him to sell 94% of his shares [ boo hoo ] which amounted to 6% of the company - directors got blindsided I bet, but, being good managers and worried about the company, they ' re-negotiated' his contract to bail him [ and them [ out of the hole ] by advancing the ' bonus'.. and, if that wasn't enough, the company agreed to 'purchase' from Aubrey his antique map collection for an additional $ 12.5 million...

Well, the whistle has been blown and corporate and pension fund shareholder groups are taking the co. and Aubrey to court..

wonder how much of the cash and goodies they'll get back and, when the dust settles, how much the court costs, legal fees and other costs such as ' forensic audits' and such will eat through any 'returns' to the coffers?

Some days I wish for the good ol' times when crooks wore striped shirts and masks instead of pinstripes and Armani ties..

There I was , at the head of the old 68th...

He is probably transferring his assets to his wife as we sit around punching keys.

This is what makes people wonder if the social order is on the right track. It is tough on those of us who like to invest our meager capital.

I notice that the hunts are on considering CEO's and the billions they have abused yet I do find it odd that the hunters ( Congress ) have already unleashed TRILLIONS that require NO follow ups.
