I went to the State Fair of Texas today and there was a display of electric mountain bikes. They had a military model. The spokesperson said that spec ops units can be landed by helo miles from a target. The spec ops people whiz to their target silently at speeds up to 30 miles per hour. They hit their target, and vanish just as quickly. The bikes are made by http://www.wavecrestlabs.com/
They have already been used in Afghanistan: http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org/article.cfm?Id=1134 |

Some of the early prototypes were tested in various environments, some were camouflaged to try to blend in, and conceal the operative.

I remember 30m forced marches carrying loads that got heavier with every step. A bike would have looked better than Vanessa Del Rio at the time.
Well, maybe not now but at that time. Had to be there... |
